-: Ajmer Urs :-

A large fair or Urs is held in Ajmer every year at the Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, a Sufi saint. The date of this Urs is not fixed, it is held according to the moon. The Urs commemorates the symbolic union of the saint with God. The Ajmer Urs is held due to the death of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti. This Urs is held for six days with continuous music. Millions of Muslim pilgrims from al over India and world visit Ajmer during the Urs and pay their homage to the holy saint. Qawaalis (poems) and other Urdu songs are sung in the honour of the saint. On the final day, women wash the tomb clean with their hair then squeeze the rose water into bottles as medicine for the sick.

The birthday of Rabindranath Tagore or popularly known as Rabindra Jayanti is celebrated on 8th May every year in West Bengal. This Jayanti is celebrated on the account of the birthday of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore. Rabindranath Tagore was a great poet, writer and philosopher. He was the first Asian man to be awarded with Nobel Prize. On his birthday, various programmes are held particularly in Calcutta. The people of Calcutta celebrate this festival with dedication, admiration and passion. On this occasion the people of Bengal (both Bangladesh and West Bengal) remember Rabindranath through his poems, songs, drama, and dance drama and through other writings. His birthday is celebrated mainly at 'Jorasanko Thakurbari', the ancestral house of the Tagore family where the poet was born and died. This heritage building is now a part of the Rabindra Bharati University. People from all over Calcutta and around visit the 'Jorasanko Thakurbari' and participate in the festival.
