Tanglang La
About Tanglang La

Tanglangla is a high mountain pass in Ladakh region of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, it lies at an elevation of 5,328 metres (17,480 ft). The elevation in metres, which is taken from a local sign, is in agreement with SRTM data. The sign incorrectly claims 17582 feet, which would be 5359 metres, and incorrectly claims the world’s second highest motorable pass. It is, however, the second highest motorable mountain pass in India after Khardung La and is reached via 21 Gata loops. It is located along the Leh-Manali Highway

Tanglang La Pass is regarded as the second highest mountain pass in Ladakh, it is located in between the snow-clad mountains of the Great Himalayas. Tanglang La pass cuts through the Zanskar Range. Icicles hanging from the cliff face in the shade create an exciting sight while crossing the pass.

Tanglangla is a high mountain pass on the Manali - Leh highway at an altitude of 17582 ft is the highest point on the highway. Tanglang la is like the gateway to Leh after the gata loops.

Gata Loops after Moore plains and the Tanglang La are the highlights of the Manali - Leh highway. Like most of the mountain passes in Leh on Tanglang la also there is a small temple and a marker stone with the altitude of the pass mentioned on it!
