Ayurveda Treatment:
Somatheeram has an in-house research team of doctors and therapists which are trained in the ancient system of Ayurveda and ensure the quality of medical preparations. Some of the medicated herbs used in the treatment are grown in a vast garden inside the campus of the Somatheeram Ayurveda Beach Village. About more than 350 medicinal plants are grown inside the garden. Somatheeram also has an Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing unit where the medicated herbal oils, powders and medicines are prepared. Somatheeram offers a variety of Ayurveda packages and yoga session in all the seasons especially in the monsoon season. These programmes include rejuvenation therapy, various Ayurveda treatments, Panchakarma treatment and beauty care programmes. Some of the treatments are described below:
Pizhichil (Duration - 14 Days)
The word Pizhichil literally means bringing out. In the Pizhichil treatment, a piece of the linen cloth is dipped in the lukewarm herbal oils and applied all over the body by two to four trained therapists in a special rhythmic way for about 60 to 90 minutes per day. In this treatment, the patient is made to lie on a special table made up of a single plying maxima wood and the treatment is done. Pizhichil is very useful in the treatment of the Rheumatic diseases like arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia, paralysis-agitanus, sexual weakness, nervous weakness and nervous disorders etc. This treatment is conducted for a period of about 7 to 21 days.
Njavarakizhi (Duration - 14 Days)
Njavarakizhi is a special treatment in which the whole of the body or any specific part of the body is made to perspire by using the rice boluses tied in a muslin bag. The whole of the body is rubbed with the boluses filled with the Njavara rice. This treatment is conducted by two to four therapists for about 60 to 90 minutes per day. This treatment is very useful in the treatment of different rheumatic diseases, pain in the joints, emaciation of limbs, blood pressure, cholesterol and certain kinds of skin diseases. This treatment is conducted for a period of about 14 days.
Dhara (Duration - 14 Days)
Dhara is a special kind of treatment in which some herbal oils, medicated milk, medicated butter milk etc., are poured on the forehead in a special method for about 45 minutes per day. In this treatment a piece of cloth is tied over the forehead of the patient so as to prevent the oil or milk from getting into the eyes. This treatment can be taken for a period of 7 to 21 days. This treatment can also be divided into Ksheera Dhara and Thyala Dhara. This treatment is very useful in insomnia, Vatha predominated diseases, mental tension and certain kinds of skin diseases.
Shirovasthi (Duration - 14 Days)
Shirovasthi is also same like Dhara besides some small difference. Shirovasthi treatment is a special kind of treatment for the head. In this treatment the patient is made to sit in a chair and a cap is fitted into the head. Then, a certain quantity of the lukewarm herbal oils are poured into a cap for about 15 to 60 minutes per day according to the patient’s conditions. This treatment is highly useful for facial paralysis, dryness of nostrils, mouth and throat, severe headaches, burning sensation of head and other vatha originated diseases. This treatment can be undertaken for about 7 to 14 days.
Urovasthi
Urovasthi treatment is a special kind of treatment meant for the various respiratory and chest related problems. In this treatment, a warm medicated herbal oil is kept over the chest for about 45 minutes. The area to be soaked with oil is bordered with the wheat flour dough and lined with cotton. Then the warm medicated herbal oil is poured over the cotton so that it can soak it. This treatment is very effective in various problems like asthma, heart diseases, muscular chest pain and various other respiratory problems. This treatment can be undertaken for a period of about 14 to 28 days.
Kativasthi
Kativasthi treatment is same like Urovasthi Ayurveda treatment. In this treatment, the patient is made to lie on its back and the area to be soaked with oil is bordered with the wheat flour dough and lined with cotton. Then the warm medicated herbal oil is poured over the cotton. This treatment is taken for about 45 minutes to 1 hour. This treatment is very effective in various types of problems like backaches, back pain and the spinal disorders.
Udvarthanam (Duration - 14 Days)
Udvarthanam is a very special kind of treatment. In this treatment a massage is done on the whole of the body with the use of some medicated herbal powders for about 30 to 45 minutes daily. This massage can be done daily for a period of 14 to 28 days. This treatment is highly effective in various diseases like hemiplegia, paralysis, obesity and certain rheumatic diseases. The Udvarthanam treatment also reduces cellulite accumulations, improve circulation and enhance your skin's texture and appearance. It also removes excess heat from your body and enhances blood circulation.
Abhyangam - 14 Days
Abhyangam is a special type of Ayurveda body massage using the warm medicated herbal oil. This massage is done in a soft rhythmic way by one or two persons for 45 to 60 minutes. In this treatment the massage is given as per the person's conditions and according to the diseases. This treatment is very useful for obesity and especially for diabetic Gangrene. This massage can be undertaken for about 14 days.
