Trivandrum

Trivandrum or Thiruvananthapuram is situated at the southernmost tip of India. Trivandrum is the modern capital city of Kerala. It is bounded by the wooded highlands of the Western Ghats on the east and northeast, and the Arabian sea on the west. Trivandrum covers an area of 2192 square kms and situated at sea level. The city is built across seven hill and still retains its regal ambience with a number of colonial and traditional buildings. 
Trivandrum is enriched with a long shoreline with internationally renowned beaches, historic monuments, backwater stretches and a rich cultural heritage. Today, Thiruvananthapuram is home to many educational, cultural and scientific institutions. Trivandrum was earlier a part of the former princely state of Travancore. The climate in Trivandrum is tropical. The temperature here ranges from 18 degree Celsius to 36 degree Celsius.

Tourist attractions in Trivandrum
The main tourist attractions in Trivandrum are its beaches, temples, backwater areas and museums. The Shanghumukham Beach is a favourite place for the sunset viewers. The main attractions of this beach are an indoor recreation club, the Matsya Kanyaka (a gigantic, 35 m long sculpture of a mermaid) and a restaurant shaped like a starfish. The main backwater areas of Trivandrum are Veli Tourist village and Akkulam Boat Club. Akkulam boat club is a picnic spot with boating facilities on the lake and a children's park. The most famous temple of Trivandrum is the beautiful Sree Padmanabha Swami temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. 
This temple is perfect blend of Kerala and Darvidian styles of sculpture and architecture. The other main place of tourist interest is the Museum complex. This museum complex consists of the Napier Museum, Sree Chithra Art Gallery and the Zoological park.
Hill stations in Trivandrum
Ponmudi is the only hill station which is located about 61 kms. from Trivandrum. It is an idyllic hill resort with narrow, winding pathways and cool, green wooded environs. Ponmudi, situated about 915 metres above sea level is well known for its beautiful mountain flowers, exotic butterflies, rivulets and springs and trekking trails.

By Air:

Trivandrum is well connected by air to various major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and various other cities of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The international airport at Trivandrum receive and as well as run international flights to Colombo, Maldives, Dubai, Sharjah, Kuwait, Bahrain and Singapore. 

By Rail:

There are direct trains from Trivandrum to all the major cities in India like Mumbai, Bangalore, Guwahati, Kanyakumari, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi and various other cities.

By Sea:

One of the most attractive aspects of Trivandrum is the predominance of rivers, backwaters and lakes. You can travel at a vast distance by water, at a leisurely pace and through beautiful lush scenery, a unique experience.
