Introduction of India Gate

India Gate stands at the center of New Delhi, it is 42 meter high. India Gate is a magnificent arch which stands like archway in the middle of a crossroad. This place was constructed as a memorial of the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War while fighting for the British Army. This memorial has the names of more than 13,516 Indian and British soldiers who were killed in the Northwestern Frontier in the Afghan war of 1919. India Gate was founded in 1921 by His Royal Highness, the Duke of Connaught and the structure was planned by Edwin Lutyens. An everlasting flame burns below the India Gate. The monument was devoted to the nation 10 years later by the then Viceroy, Lord Irwin. Another cenotaph named Amar Jawan Jyoti was added much later, after the independence of India. It is in the form of a flame which burns all the day and night under the arch in the memory of the nation of soldiers who sacrifice their lives in the Indo-Pakistan War of December 1971.

India Gate

Monument of India Gate is very wonderful and the arch stands on a low base of red Bharatpur stone which rises in stages to a vast molding. A very beautiful view of Rashtrapati Bhavan can be seen from the base of the arch. There is a large area of lush green lawns enclosing this amazing structure, which is a famous picnic spot.

Connaught Place, Delhi

Connaught Place is a very prominent shopping centre of New Delhi. This place was designed to link Old and New Delhi. This place was built in a horseshoe pattern, consisting of inner, outer and middle circles. It came up in 1931 with the official transfer of the capital from Calcutta to Delhi. Now, it is the most wanted place of the next generation and various multi-storey buildings are also situated within its periphery. Connaught Place and its outer ring, Connaught Circus, jointly comprises two storey arcaded buildings. The foundation stone of Connaught Place was laid by Sir Robert Tor Russell. This is an important commercial centre of Delhi. Both the Connaught Place and the Connaught Circus are very unique architecturally. Jan Path (the People's Way) is situated to the South of the place and the hostels for the members of the newly convened Legislative Assembly are situated on the East and West of the place.
