Norbulingka Palace is the most majestic construction in lhasa. Literally means "The Jewelled Park" or the “Treasure Park”, this served as the traditional summer residence of the successive Dalai Lamas from the 1780s up until the PRC takeover in the late 1950s. This palace holds beautiful gardens that are favorite picnic spots and provide a beautiful venue for theatre, dancing and festivals, particularly the Sho Dun or 'Yoghurt Festival'
