Bogmalo Beach
............................................................................................................................................................................... |
Hidden
between the airport and sprawl of industry, the forgotten
village of Bogmalo, 4 km from the airport, has a pleasant,
sandy cove dominated by the ugly five-star Bogmalo Beach
Resort. Aside from the beach, which is popular with Indian
tourists looking for a quiet break, there isn’t a great deal
to do here. |

Bogmalo Beach
Bogmalo Beach is a small, sheltered, palm fringed and
attractive beach hemmed in by coconut cliffs that sits
just 4 kms south of Dabolim airport. Bogmalo has a
feeling of exclusivity and can be used as a base for
diving. Very few people come here. It backs onto the
bald upland area of Margao peninsula which presents a
stark contrast. It's close to the sprawling industrial
centre of Vasco da Gama |

and accessed
easily from the airport. At the southern end of the beach is
the beautifully appointed Oberoi Bogmalo hotel.
Dona Paula Beach
Dona Paula on the Zuari estuary has a small palm fringed
beach, casuarine groves and is very peaceful. Dona Paula is
the headland between the Mandovi river estuary and Marmagao
harbour. The point is named after a viceroy's daughter who
reputedly fell in love with a fisherman and when permission to
marry was refused jumped into the sea from the cliffs. There
is a fine view. Vainguinim beach is close by and is part
occupied by Welcomgroup’s stylish Cidade de Goa complex.
How to reach Bogmalo Beach
Bogmalo Beach is easily accessed from Vasco da Gama, Margao
and Panaji. |
