Palakkad, also known as Palghat (anglicized), is a town and
municipality in the state of Kerala in southern India. It
is the administrative headquarters of Palakkad District.
Palakkad connects Kerala to
the plains of the state of Tamil Nadu to the east. The
people of Palakkad generally speak Malayalam, though Tamil
is also widely understood as it is close to the Tamil Nadu
border. Palakkad is bordered
on the northwest by the Malappuram District and on the
southwest by the Thrissur District. To the east lies the
Coimbatore District of Tamil Nadu. Palakkad is the gateway to Kerala due to the
presence of Palakkad Gap, in the Western Ghats. The district is nicknamed as the granary of Kerala. There are
