Ranikhet, the Queen’s Meadow
is located in the Kumaon hills at 6000 feet,
about 60 km from Nainital.
According to the
legends, the Kumaoni queen, Rani Padmini fell so deeply in love with the green meadows of a tiny hill paradise that her king, Raja Sukherdev, built a grand palace there and named the place Ranikhet.
But now there are no traces of
the palace but still the
Ranikhet is known as the
queen's meadow. Ranikhet
is the known hill
station of Uttaranchal
thickly populated by the forested slopes of pine and deodar, mountain streams and pristine valleys carpeted with flowers. |
