Rajasthan
is well-known for its jewellery industry and it is one of the world's
largest centres for hand-cutting of gems. It is India's main basis for
valuable and invaluable stones like; Garnets, Ruby, Lapis lazuli,
Emerald, Topaz, Agate, Amethyst, Carnelian, etc.
Rajasthan is also famous for the art of silver smithy, starting from
anklets to earrings to head equipments. A lot of effort goes into its
manufacturing since most of the rural communities wear silver
ornaments. Besides silver, it is known for its Lac bangles, Kundan and
Minakari shiny gold jewellery, uncut diamonds and emerald-cutting.
Another most restricted art is 'thewa' from Chittaur popular for its
gold work on glass. Some of the traditional decorations are Gokhrus
(bracelets), Tussi (necklace), Pajebs (anklets), Rakhdi (head
ornament), Baju Bandh (armlet), Adah (special necklace worn by
Rajputs), etc.
Gems & Jewellery
Gems & Jewellery constitute 15% of India's export, of which a major
contribution comes from Rajasthan. The exports of Gems and Jewellery
sector was INR2, 686 Crores and accounted about 11% of the total
exports from Rajasthan in 2010-11.

Different types of Jewellery |
Masculine Jewellery: Pride, a love of wealth and deep artistic
sense gave the Rajas and Ranas of Rajasthan a great liking for
jewellery. The men were as highly and amazingly dressed as the women,
with jewellery that often match that of their wives. It was a status
symbol and a convenient show of wealth, and as a result, power Turban
jewellery was the privilege of king, his close family or the members
of his associates (including his horse).
Silver Jewellery: Wearing jewellery in the villages represents
social and economic status. One can find men and women are decorated
with elaborate silver jewellery as rings, pedants, bracelets, nose
pins etc from foot parts to head. Even today some of the most
traditional patterns are found in silver jewellery.
Feminine Jewellery: Feminine jewellery is more composite than
masculine jewellery. Jewellery in India is worn as a complete ensemble
and not as an ornament. It is thus quite acceptable to wear more than
one necklace around the neck, also in the ears, on the toes and
fingers, ornaments on the forehead, in the hair, and so on, any number
to be worn at the same time.
Kundan Jewellery: A popularity of Rajasthan is work of Kundan,
the jewellery in which Kundan is applied, is generally made from a
heart of lac, a natural resin. Kundan jewellery is a mixture of gems
and Meenakari on both side of a pattern with exciting colors.
Precious And Semi Precious Stones: Rajasthan has rich deposits
of valuable and non-valuable stones such as topaz, agate, amethyst,
emerald, lapiz lazuli and garnet, Each gem is supposed to have inbuilt
powers and are used as lucky charms along Gold Jewellery: The most
demanded metal in Indian jewellery also forms a significant part of
jewellery in Rajasthan. Starting from 24 ct. to 18 ct., gold jewellery
is available in all forms. Along with pure gold, one finds it studded
with a variety of valuable and non valuable stones with their beauty
as jewellery pieces.
Pratapgarh Jewellery: Pratapgarh has advanced its own way of
enamel work which has given rise to new pattern of jewellery. Here the
coating work is done with gold or silver using colored glass pieces as
the base.
Lac Jewellery: Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur are very popular all
over for Lacquered work. Lac bangles, toys and different articles are
shoppers joy. Udaipur produces different objects such as tables,
lamps and decorative articles in a variety of shapes, sizes and
colors.
Meenakari Jewellery: Meenakari is famous for its gracefulness
and its use of colors. Polishing work is done on both silver and gold
ornaments and has grown under the support of kings, queens, seths and
princes.
Textile Ornamentation: Besides all this jewelry, the saris and
the lehengas (long skirts) of the ladies may be luxuriously and
heavily embroidered with gold and silver threads. A single particle of
gold could be drawn to a length of 500 feet.
Other Materials: Ivory was often used to make jewellery,
especially bangles, which are considered as a necessary part of
wedding jewelry. The bangles are often overlaid with gold. They are
often painted in various colours, of the painted colours the most
popular one is red. The construction of ivory bangles has now been
stopped due to the ban on use of ivory and has been replaced by
plastic or bone. Lac jewelry, usually bangles, are often worn in
Rajasthan on all favorable occasions as a sign of good indication.

Jaipur
market holds the monopoly in the jewellery houses all over India and
in the global arena too. This colorful market is well-known as the
name of Johari Bazaar which ranks among the most special jewellery
markets in the world. The variety of ranges is beyond comparison and

here at reasonable prices. A special Rajasthani traditional work of
