Gajner
Palace is a jewel in the Thar Desert, it is a unit of HRH Group of
Hotels. It was founded by HH Maharaja Sir Ganga Singh of Bikaner on
the edge of a lake.
Previously, Gajner Palace was used as a hunting lodge by the former
Maharajas.
During the control of Maharaja
Ganga Singhji this palace was used for duck and Imperial Sand Grouse
shooting and lavish Christmas season was often celebrated with great
fun and entertainment. National, international kings and other
dignatories were invited on this grand occasion. Some dignatories who
have visited Gajner Palace are Prince of Wales (1905), Lord
Mountbatten of Burma, Lord lrwin (1927) and Governor General Lord
Elgin.
There is a private wildlife sanctuary inside the Gajner Palace. This
sanctuary is home to some animals like Chinkara, Black Buck, Neelgai
and other animals. The lake of Gajner Palace has several species of
migratory birds including the Imperial Sand Grouse during winter
months. One can enjoy the jungle safari in the wildlife sanctuary in
the morning and evening.
Gajner Palace is divided into five different sections – Gulab Niwas,
Dungar Niwas, Sardar Niwas, Mandir Chowk and Champa Niwas. One can
also view the photographs of the days of the British Raj System which
are arranged very properly in the corridors in the Gajner Palace.
There are a lot of activities which the tourists can enjoy at Gajner
Palace. These are Camel Safari, billiards, boating, tennis, Jeep
Safari and Horse Riding.
Location:
Gajner Palace is located about 30 km from Bikaner in Gajner, it
spreads an area 6000 acres of land. Gajner is located near Kolayat
which is an old historic village with a holy lake (Kapil Sarovar) and
several temples. Many pilgrims visit Gajner during Kartik
Purnima on full moon day between October and November.
How to reach There:
The nearest city is Bikaner which is about 30 km. Bikaner is easily
reachable accessible by rail, road and air. Nearest airport and
railway station is situated at Jodhpur which is about 250 kms. |
