Museum, Jodhpur also known as Sardar Government Museum is located in
Public Park (Ummed Bagh), this museum was built in 1909. It was opened
for public on 17 March, 1936. It is one of the most famous museum of
Rajasthan. The museum is named after Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur.
The museum also has a very beautiful garden. The building and garden
of the museum were evolved during the rule of Maharaja Umaid Singhji
of Jodhpur. Jodhpur Govt. Museum is situated on the High Court Road.
It is situated in between the Umaid public gardens.
A variety
of exhibits are displayed inside the museum which include: weaponry,
items of terracotta, miniature paintings, inscriptions, metallic
objects, arms, textiles, local arts and crafts, large number of
statues of stones and also a very large number of coins. In addition
to these about 4000 miscellaneous objects are displayed in various
sections of the museum like historical section, armory, art & craft
section and also in Archaeological Section. The museum also exhibits
paintings of the rulers, and scriptures and images of Jain
Tirthankars.

There are
various exhibits and galleries inside the museum which comprise
miniature paintings, textiles, stuffed animals like birds, weapons,
local crafts and images of Jain Tirthankars. The museum has a military
section which is distinct from other parts of the museum which
exhibits a good collection battleship of brass and wooden models of
early type aircrafts. The museum also has a public library and a zoo
which is situated in the fascinating Umaid Gardens.
This
museum holds a very prominent attraction for childrens. This museum
has various objects which will fascinate the childrens. Childrens are
very much attracted by stuffed animals and a variety of desert birds
which are displayed in glass cases.

that the foundation of this museum was laid down during the period of
Maharaja Umed Singhji in the year 1909.

Government Museum is situated in the Umed Gardens which is an addition
to the Umaid Palace, the constructed of which was laid by the Henry
Vaughan Lanchester who was a famous Edwardian architect. It is due to
him only that the architecture of the museum is very fabulous and
amazing.
