Respiration can also be said as the Breathing system as how we inhale and exhale air through our nostral way. It is possible to live without food or water for a few days, but when respiration ceases it will not be possible to survive further. The basic energy needs of the human body are met mainly by the oxygen plus glucose. The oxygen helps in the process of elimination by oxidizing the waste matter, while glucose supplied with oxygen nourishes the body cells in the flow of respiration.

Basic Problems in Respiratory System

The basic energy needs of the human body are met predominantly by oxygen plus glucose. The former aids in the process of elimination by oxidizing the waste matter, while glucose supplied with oxygen nourishes the body cells in the flow of respiration. The basic problem in Respiratory system is that the toxins accumulate, diseases spread through the body and all health becomes habitual. The key to this is Pranayama.

The main purpose of Pranayama is to make the respiratory system function at its best. This automatically improves the circulatory system without which the processes of digestion and crimination would suffer. The respiratory system is the gateway to purifying the body, mind and intellect.

Types of Respiration

Respiration can be classified into four types which are Claricular breathing, Intercostal breathing, Diaphragmatic breathing and Pranayamic breathing.

1. High or Claricular breathing - In this type of breathing, the relevant muscles in the neck mainly activate the top  parts of the lungs.

2. Intercostal or Mid breathing - In this type of breathing only the central parts of the lungs are activated.

3. Low or Diaphragmatic breathing - In this type of breathing, the lower portions of the lung are activated mainly while the top and contrail portions remain less active.

4. Pranayamaic breathing - In this type of breathing, the entire lungs are used to their fullest capacity.
