Rimbik
About Rimbik

Rimbik is a small town in the Singalila National Park area of Darjeeling District of West Bengal.Rimbik has an altitude of 7500 ft (Average). The small town is a tourist center for trekkers travelling to the Singalila National Park area including Sandakphu. In the recent past there has been some interest from the offbeat leisure tourists who want to explore the region beyond traditional tourist destinations. Rimbik has a Latitude of 27.03 N and Longitude of 88.36 E

Rimbik is perched on a hill above river Rammam flowing from Sikkim to Bengal. The small town is the last major village in the Bengal side and is close to Nepal and Sikkim boarders. The villages in the nearby area depend on Rimbik market for their regular supplies.

Facing the towering Himalayas and surrounded by hills green with conifers, Rimbik appears perched on the roof of the world ' at least this part of the world. Located at an elevation of 2,286 m, in the shadow of the almighty Kanchenjunga and its family, the town overrun with leafs and orchids is a tapestry of nature's reward and colourful people.

Rimbik Route

Rimbik town itself does not have too many tourist attractions to offer. There are two trek routes which connect Rimbik with Sandakphu. One is a direct forest trail coming from Bikebhanjan to Rimbik. The other trek route reaches Rimbik via Gurdung and Srikhola.

The second trek route although longer, is favored by most trekkers. From Rimbik an uneven road takes you to Srikhola (about 7 kms) from where one can start trek.Gurdung is just 3 kms trek from Srikhola towards Sandakphu. Some tourists prefer to trek only till Gurdung thus combining adventure of the Sandakphu trek without getting out of the Leisure tour mode altogether. Between Srikhola and Gurdung lies the small village of Timbure where tourist accommodation is also available. Srikhola and Gurdung offers basic tourist accommodations, Rimbik also has a number of basic tourist accommodations.

The route to Rimbik is the same as that to Darjeeling till Ghoom. Besides buses and cars, you can take the toy train to Ghoom from Siliguri. The railroad has been in existence since 1878. In 1999, it was accorded world heritage status by the United Nations. A motorable road accompanies the serpentine tracks. The engine chugs past the Batasia Loop, a marvellous feat of engineering.

The turquoise sky and imposing mountains may fill you with awesome urge to click, paint or simply enjoy the whisper of the unspoilt breeze. Roam at leisure along hilly trails lined with pine, birch and oak as birdcalls encompass the air.

Main Attractions of Rimbik

The main attraction is the striking view of the Kanchenjunga, the world's third highest peak, and other frozen pinnacles. The psychedelic play of colours on the snowy surfaces of the titans has to be seen to be believed.

Rimbik is almost quiet and offers cool comfort. An array of accommodation, from the simple to the luxurious, caters to every pocket and preference. Darjeeling and Nowlekh can be seen from Rimbik during the day. The lights of the queen of the Eastern Himalayas sparkle like jewels at night. Under the canopy of a star-studded sky, the sight is thrilling.
