beaches in
Goa. The village is a mass of cheap restaurants with names
such as Johnny Cool and Vincy’s Hotel, very much the product
of rapid development. The beach itself is magnificent with
beautiful white sand, coconut palms gently swaying in the
breeze and blue waters (which can sometimes be rough). Colva
is popular with Indian families and a middle-aged European
crowd, while Benaulim, 2 km south, is still a very peaceful
village with most of the accommodation in family guesthouses.
It’s a good place to rent long-term if you’re after a relaxing
Goan experience, but in both places the beaches are far from
immaculate.
Bikes can be hired near the bus stand in
Colva and on the beach in Benaulim. With fewer people than the
northern beaches and quiet back lanes, occasional robberies do
occur in Benaulim. Avoid walking from the beach alone at
night.
Activities in the Colva Beach
Water sports and dolphin tours are available at Colva Beach,
while parasailing and jet-skiing are available in high season.
Benaulim Beach
Benaulim is the more tranquil end of Colva beach. The nearest
town is Margao. Benaulim runs into Varca and Cavelossim
beaches, still relatively unspoilt though likely to be
developed. Mabor and Betul beaches lie either side of the
inlet and are very quiet. |
