There are various places of interest in Munnar which are located at a very short distance like Rajmalai, Eravikulam National Park, Devikulam, Marayoor, Mattupetty Dam, Chinnar Wildlife

Devikulam
Devikulam is located about 7 kms from Munnar. It is a hill-station lake town and is a mojor tourist attraction.
Marayoor
Marayoor is located about 36 kms from Munnar. It is the only place in Kerala that has a natural growth of sandalwood trees. The place has left glimpses of the ancient caves
(muniyars). Thoovanam Waterfalls is situated near Marayoor.

Thekkady
Thekkady is about 90 kms. from Munnar. Thekkady is well known for the Periyar National Park. Boating on the Periyar lake and trekking are very exciting. The lake of Periyar is the central point of the famous Periyar national park. Periyar national park covers an area of 780 square km and was designated a part of project Tiger in 1973. Various animals like elephants, bison,
sambar, wild oxen, wild boar and
spotted deer are found here. |

Chinnar
Wildlife Sanctuary
Chinnar Wildlife sanctuary is located about 60 kms. from
Munnar. Chinnar wildlife sanctuary is the home to some of
the rare species of flora and fauna. This sanctuary is the
habitat of various wild animals like Elephant, Guar, Deer,
Sambar, Langur and the endangered giant squirrel.
Mattupetty Dam
Mattupetty Dam is located about 13 kms from Munnar. It has an Indo-Swiss Livestock Project and has rose gardens. It has boating facilities too. The famous Echo point is located near the dam and offers various beautiful picnic spots. |
