Ladakh Camel Safari
Camel, also known as the Ship of desert, is the major
mode of transportation in desert. They are also known as
the lifeline for the desert people. Camel Safari has
been a experience that is happening since the ancient
times, when no other modern means of transport were
developed and animals were used. Many people who know
that camel Safari is taken only in the hot deserts of
Rajasthan, will be surprised to know that camel safari
is carried out in the cold deserts of Ladakh also.
Tourists can enjoy the soft adventure of camel safari in Ladakh in the months of July, August and September. As
one explores the rugged mountain terrain on a camel
back, one feels far removed from the earth. It will be a
real memorable experience that one won't be able to
forget whole of life. The main reason is that beside the
extreme image of this cold desert lies the adventure of
exploring the beautiful landscape and passage through
remote villages, camping |

in tents and spending the
night under the stars. Camel Safari provides a
commanding view of the valleys, villages and Buddhist Gompas.
In the camel safari, you will also explore the charming
villages of Nubra on camel back. Nubra Valley is a fascinating
place. Highly contrastive, the landscape would immediately
change from fertile green apricot fields to a dry desert like
terrain with snow-capped peaks in the distance. In Nubra you
will also find a small population of the shaggy double-humped
Bactrian camels, which in the olden days were used as pack
animals on the Central Asian trade route. During the past 50
years, they have been bred for transport purposes in Nubra.
Today various tourists use these animals for going on camel
safaris. The main population centers are Deskit and Hunder.
The Panamic village is the last leg of Camel Safari. In
Panamic village, the hot springs are locally reputed to have
therapeutic qualities. |
