How
should I visit religious places in Rajasthan ?
When visiting a holy place, remove your shoes and step over the
entrance. People move through the temple to do Puja (worship), laying
offerings on the sculptures of the gods to take their blessings. It’s
usual to leave a small amount of money for the priest after receiving
a blessing.
Be aware for signs specifying that non-Hindus may not visit the inner
chamber of the shrine and may visit only its outer parts. If there is
no sign, ask a priest. If you are offered a piece of sweet or fresh
coconut or banana, it’s prasad, which is offered to the gods, holy
food. Since it’s a great honor to be offered it, never decline it.
Accept it – and eat it.
Remember that men and women sit in separate places in Muslim mosques
and Sikh Gurudwaras. You need to cover your head while visiting the
main chamber of the mosque and Sikh Gurudwaras. You have to take
permission if you want to do photography at the inner chamber of the
religious places. Also at some of the religious places it is
restricted to take the picture of main deity
While
visiting religious places, Men should wear long pants and a
short-sleeved shirt, women should be covered – short or long sleeves
tops and a long skirt or pants could be worn. Women should not wear
sleeveless dresses or blouses. They need not cover their face or head.
At the religious places it is very unpleasant if you wear items of
leather like leather jackets, shoes, and belts or if you carry any
leather handbags with you since cows are sacred.

What about the basic public facilities which are provided in
Rajasthan ?
The public facilities are rarely good, in almost all the major cities.
Western – style toilets are there in all the standard hotels and
restaurants. But in standard hotels perhaps they are not so clean as
compared to your country. Indian trains generally have both Indian- style and Western-style
toilets. Public Bathrooms and Toilets are there in hotels,
restaurants, bus stations, railway stations, and some shops in large
cities. There is a picture on the door which will specify which
bathroom is for which sex.
At some
places, there may be a row of stalls with Indian-style “squat” toilets
and also in Western – style. But in small towns or cities
where the tourist crowd is less the
facilities
are quite poor.
Keep
toilet paper or tissues, paper soaps or liquid soaps with you for
convenience when you are going to small towns or places.

Can I drive without any driver in Rajasthan ?
Though it is allowable to drive in
India but we advice you
not to drive as the condition of roads and traffic rules differs very
much as compared to Western countries. Driving here is very much
different and tough as compared to foreign countries. There are buses,
rickshaws, trucks, cycles, pigs, camels, goats, cows and various
pedestrians on roads. If you drive on your own, then there are more
chances to meet with an accident. So we advice you to
hire a driver
as they are well trained and are familiar with
traffic conditions of Rajasthan.
