History
of Rajasthan |
The
Gurjars, Bishnois, Rajpurohit, Yadavs, Meenas, Bhils, Rajputs,
Charans, Jats, and other tribes put their utmost effort in the
foundation of the state of Rajasthan. All of them face many problems
in protecting their customs and the land. Many of them lost their life
in this. Presently Rajasthan comprises mostly Rajputana, which
includes the former 19 princely states, the British area of
Ajmer-Merwara and two chiefships. Some of the main Rajput states of
Rajasthan are Alwar, Jaipur, Bikaner, Udaipur and Jodhpur.
Jat princely states were Dholpur and Bharatpur while Tonk was princely
state under Muslim Rulers. Rajput clans came and held their control
over different areas of Rajasthan in the 6th century CE. Rajputs
flight and protect Rajasthan from the Islamic attacks for more than
500 years. Over the years, the Mughals began to have internal
conflicts which largely distracted them at times. Mughal Empire
decline in the 18th century, with their decline Rajputana came under
lordship of the Marathas.
The Marathas, who were Hindus from the state of Maharashtra, ruled
Rajputana in the 18th century. The Maratha Empire, which had replaced
the Mughal Empire was replaced in the year 1818 by the British Empire.
After their defeat, the Rajput clans finished treaties with the
British in the beginning of the 19th century, accepting British
control and lordship over their outside matters in return for internal
sovereignty.
From the past time, Rajasthan is very rich in cultural heritage and
has beautiful architectural wonders, which is clearly seen in various
palaces and forts (Havelis and Mahals) which are decorated with Jain
and Islamic architectural patterns. The development of the wall
paintings in Rajasthan is connected with the history of the Marwaris
who played an important part in the economic growth of the state. Many
wealthy clans throughout Indian history have relations to Marwar.
These include the famous Bajaj, Mittal and Birla families.
