Palace on Wheels, the luxurious royal train in India
covers seven days tour of Rajasthan. This journey can be
enjoyed only from the months of September to April. Palace
on Wheels starts on every Wednesday night from the Delhi Cantt and returns early morning on next Wednesday
in Delhi. This train covers 8 days and 7 nights, after going through
Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Bharatpur
and Agra.
Day 1: Wednesday Delhi
Reporting Time 16.00 hrs. Departure 18.30 hrs.
The royal journey on the Palace on Wheels starts with a warm and traditional welcome of the guests at the Delhi Cantonment railway station, the city of ruined forts and rising towers. Delhi was once the city of the heroes of the Mahabharata and ruled by the Tughlaqs, the Khiljis and the Mughals. After receiving the welcome, the guests will be acquainted with various amenities at the train. Later in the evening, the Palace on Wheels departs for the week-long luxury cruise through fascinating Rajasthan, the land of Maharajas or kings. Dinner on Board. |

Day 3: Friday Jaisalmer

In the morning around
8.15 AM, arrive in Jaisalmer, the heart of the Thar Desert. Jaisalmer was founded by Rawal Jaisal in 1156 AD and architecturally one of the
greatest royal bastions of the world. In Jaisalmer, you will visit the
splendor of the sandstone Jaisalmer fort, towering magnificently over the city and discover the beautiful latticed havelis
with the grand facades like the Nathmalji-ki-haveli, Patwon-ki-haveli. After having lunch on board, you will go for an exciting camel ride on the Sam sand dunes. On the dunes, you will enjoy the dinner under the open sky with the folk dances and music of Rajasthan. After having sightseeing, return back to the Palace on Wheels for the further journey to Jodhpur. Dinner on Board.
Day 4: Saturday Jodhpur
Arrival 07.00 hrs. Departure 15.30 hrs.
In the morning around 7.00 AM, the Palace on wheels arrives in Jodhpur, a city surrounded by a high stone wall with seven gates and several bastions. Jodhpur, the second largest city of Rajasthan was founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 AD and known for the Mehrangarh Fort. Within the
fort, lies a large number of palaces where the Maharaja's retainers now serves as guides like the Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana. The palaces are painted, gilded and have windows and balconies that provide an uninterrupted view of the desert and are impressive examples of architectural excellence. Near the fort complex lies the Jaswant Thada, a royal cenotaph made of white marble. In Jodhpur
you can also buy the exquisite handcrafted articles like the famous breeches, embroidered shoes, metal curios, silverware, paintings and tie and dye fabrics. After having lunch at the royal palace hotel, return to the Palace on Wheels for Sawai Madhopur. Dinner on Board.
Day 5: Sunday Sawai Madhopur
Arrival 04.00 hrs. Departure 10.30 hrs. Arrival 16.00 hrs. - Chittorgarh
In the early morning, arrive in Sawai Madhopur, a city named after its founder Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I. Sawai Madhopur is known for the world famous Ranthambore National Park and a 10th century old fort. After having breakfast you will visit the Ranthambore National Park. The main attraction of the Ranthambore National Park is the tiger. Besides tiger, more than 300 species of birds and animals like hyena, ratel, jackal and fox can also be seen in the park. After visiting the park, return to the Palace on Wheels, and leave for Chittaurgarh. Lunch on board, and by the evening you will be in Chittaurgarh. Chittaurgarh is known for the Chittaurgarh fort, girdled by massive walls and seven majestic gateways. Its history is an unending saga of passion, chivalry and romance. Within its sprawling ramparts lies the beautiful palaces, the Tower of Victory, and the Temple of Mirabai. After visiting the fort, return to the Palace on Wheels, and leave for Udaipur.
Day 6: Monday Udaipur Arrival 7.30 hrs. Departure
15:30 hrs. for Bharatpur
In the morning, arrive in Udaipur, the city of Lakes at 7:30 AM. Udaipur was founded by Maharana Udai Singh of Mewar, after the Sisodia dynasty was driven away by the Mughals in 1559 AD. The two most beautiful
palaces in Udaipur are the Jag Niwas (Lake Palace) and the Jag Mandir, which appear to rise from the blue waters of Lake Pichhola. After having lunch at the Lake Palace Hotel, visit the City Palace. After visiting the palace, return to the Palace on Wheels, and leave for Bharatpur.
Day 7: Tuesday Bharatpur Arrival
6.30 hrs. Departure 11.45 hrs. for Agra
Agra Arrival 14.30 hrs Departure 23.00 hrs for Delhi
In the early morning, the Palace on Wheels arrives in Bharatpur, the capital of Maharaja Suraj Mal. Bharatpur is known for the the world famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park. After having breakfast you will visit the Keoladeo Ghana National Park. The Keoladeo Ghana National Park is one of finest bird sanctuary in the world. This famous bird sanctuary is the nesting place for the thousands of species of
water birds like egrets, Siberian Cranes, and migratory water fowl. After visiting the
bird sanctuary, depart for Agra and enroute visit the Fatehpur Sikri, the city built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar of the red sandstone. In the afternoon arrive in Agra. After having lunch at the hotel, you will visit the Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world, and a pristine monument of undying love. Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved queen, Mumtaz Mahal. After visiting the Taj Mahal, depart back to the train for the journey to Delhi. Dinner on board.
Day 8: Wednesday Delhi Arrival 6.00 hrs.
In the morning
arrive at Delhi Cantonment railway station at 6.00 AM.
