Traveling Around Rajasthan

Rajasthan is the desert jewel of India. The land of Rajasthan spread across the great Indian desert or the Thar Desert and is the India's ambassador to the world of travel and tourism. Rajasthan is one of the major tourist destination in India.

Neighbouring states of Rajasthan

Rajasthan shares boundaries with Punjab and Haryana in the north, Uttar Pradesh in the east, Madhya Pradesh in the south-east and Gujarat in the south-west and south. It also shares international boundaries with Pakistan in the west and north-west. It is well connected with these different states and other parts of country and can be reached by air, rail and road. Punjab and Haryana

The word Punjab means the land of five rivers. The five rivers that flowed in Punjab were Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas and Sutlej. Due to these rivers, the land of Punjab is very fertile. Punjab and Haryana shares borders with Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Both, Punjab and Haryana are one of the most important agricultural regions in India. It is here that you will see the Indian tradition being played out in many aspects of the daily life, festivals, buildings and houses, the regional handicrafts and the cuisine. Chandigarh, the largest town is the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana. Punjab is the homeland of the Sikhs, one of the India's most distinctive regional and religious groups. Haryana is dominated by the Hindi-speaking people. Some of the monuments and places of sightseeing like the Jallianwala Bagh, Golden Temple, Rock Garden, Rose Garden, Sukhna Lake, and Wagah border are situated in the region of Punjab.

Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh literally means the northern province. Uttar Pradesh was one of the largest state in India, before its disintegration into two states namely, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Uttar Prdaesh shares borders with Tibet (China) in the north and the north-east, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajsthan and Madhya Pradesh in the west and Bihar in the east. Some of the most well-known tourist centres in Uttar Pradesh are Agra, the city of the Taj, and Varanasi, one of the most ancient cities of the world situated on the banks of the river Ganges. Uttarakhand covers an area of about 25,000 square kms and encompasses the area of Garhwal and Kumaon Hills in Uttar Pradesh. Most of the tourist destinations in Uttar Pradesh are easily accessible from Delhi and other states by air as well by comfortable surface transportation.

Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh is the largest state in India. The word Madhya Pradesh means the central province and is centrally located in the heart of India. Bhopal is the capital of the state of Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh is the southernmost of the landlocked states of India and shares boundaries with Uttar Pradesh in the north, Bihar in the north east, Orissa in the east, Andhra Pradesh in the south east, Maharashtra in the south and south west, Gujarat in the West and Rajasthan in the north west. Some of the magnificent archaeological and historical sites and places of interest are located in Madhya Pradesh like stupa at Sanchi, Eastern and Western group of temples at Khajuraho, forts and palaces in Gwalior, Indore, Mandu, Jabalpur, Ujjain, Bhopal, Kanha National Park and Bandhavgarh National Park.

Gujarat

Gujarat is one of the most diverse and industrially advanced states in India. The word Gujarat derives its name from the word 'Gujaratta' that means the land of gurjars. This state can also be visited during your trip to Mumbai or Rajasthan. It is situated on the west coast of India and shares border with Rajasthan in the north, Madhya Pradesh in the east, Maharashtra in the south, Arabian Sea in the west and Pakistan in the north west. Gandhinagar is the state capital of Gujarat. The people of Gujarat are also known to be a successful business community. The state of Gujarat is known all over the world for its holy temples, historic capitals, wildlife sanctuaries, beaches, hill resorts, fascinating handicrafts, mouth watering cuisine and colourful lifestyle of the people of Gujarat. Some of the famous historical places and tourist destinations in Gujarat are Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar, Gir National Park, Baroda, Bhuj, Palitana, Gondal, Junagadh, Rajkot and Porbandar.
