Kerala Waterfalls

The forests of the Western Ghats are punctuated with large and small waterfalls. There are numerous waterfalls in Kerala. These waterfalls roar, gurgle and splash down the mountain side. Almost all these scintillating cascades are the venues for picnics and excursions round the year. As one will travel to the various destinations in Kerala, then they will pass through narrow and bewitching waterfalls. Spend time here and get the refreshing and cool atmosphere to revitalize yourself.

 

Palaruvi Waterfalls
Palaruvi means the milky stream. The Palaruvi waterfalls makes its way down the rocks, from a height of 300 feet. This waterfall falls in the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It is situated about 35 kilometers east of Punalur on the Quilon - Shenkottah road near Ariankavu mountain pass. The water is said to be medicated as it flows down from the forest and is said to be preventive for many diseases. The Palaruvi wood is a beautiful picnic spot.

Marmala Waterfalls
The Marmala Waterfalls lies a few kms. away from Eerattupetta. It is exactly 7 kms from Teekoy rubber estate. To reach the falls one has to trek through the estate over the rocky path. The scenic Marmala stream and its breathtaking waterfalls are together referred as the enchantress of the jungle. Sliding down numerous hillocks from a height of 200 feet, the gushing water has etched out over the years a deep pond in the rocks. Right under the waterfalls is a natural bridge.

Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls

Palaruvi Waterfalls, Kerala

Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls is situated about 18 kms. from Kottayam. This beautiful picnic spot is located about 2 kms. down a mud lane from Kumarakom. In this place, the streams tinkle as they make their way through the landscape and water roars as they cascade down the mountains from the height of 100 feet. The tourists can also enjoy the shade of the rubber plantations here.

 

Perunthenaruvi Waterfalls
The Perunthenaruvi Waterfalls is situated about 36 kms. from Pathanamthitta. The Perunthenaruvi Waterfalls on the banks of the Pamba river is a favourite picnic spot for both domestic and foreign tourists. Here, the water flows down a rocky bed into a ravine about 60 to 100 feet deep.

Attukal

Attukal is located between Munnar and Pallivasal, about 9 km from Munnar. The panorama of waterfalls and rolling hills is like a feast for the eyes. The place is also ideal for long treks.

 

Athirapally Waterfalls, Kerala

Nyayamakad
Nyayamakad is located between Munnar and Rajmala and is a land of breathtaking waterfalls. The waters cascade down a hill from a height of about 1600 metres. The enchanting surroundings make an excellent picnic spot and trekking point.

Cheeyappara

The Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls are located between Neriamangalam and Adimali on the Kochi-Madurai highway. The Cheeyappara waterfalls cascade down in seven steps. It is a real feast for the eyes. This is also a great place for trekking. Thr Valara has a chain of waterfalls surrounded by thick green forests.

Chellarkovil
Chellarkovil, about 15 kms from Kumily is the sleepy village. This little village offers breathtaking view of the plains and cascading waterfalls. The village slopes down to the famous coconut groves of Cumbum in neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

 
 

Power House Waterfalls
The Power House Waterfall is situated about 18 kms. from Munnar. This waterfall is situated on the way to Thekkady from Munnar and cascades down to step rock 2000 m above sea level. The spot is enriched which the scenic western mountain range and is an ideal place for a break on the way to the Periyar Wildlife sanctuary.

Thommankuthu
Thommankuthu is situated about 17 kms. from Thodupuzha. Thommankutthu is famous for its numerous waterfalls. This place is ideal for natural lovers as the seven-step waterfall here is a much loved picnic spot. At each step, there is a cascade and a pool beneath to enjoy the panoramic beauty. It is also an ideal place for adventure tourism.

Dhoni

Dhoni is situated about 15 kms. from Palakkad. It takes a three hour trek from the base of the Dhoni Hills to reach this reserve forest area with its small, beautiful waterfall.

 

Meenvallam Waterfalls
The Meenvallam waterfall is around 8 kms from Thuppanad junction on the Palakkad-Manarkkad route. It is a combination of enchanting beauty and scenic splendor. The water falls from nearly 20 to 25 feet and the depth is around 15 to 20 feet. There are 10 steps of waterfalls out of which eight are located in the upper hills inside the dense forest and are inaccessible, only the remaining two steps are accessible. One has to hire a jeep from Koomankund junction and then trek a distance of 1.5 kms. by crossing the river Thuppanad.

Athirapally Waterfalls

Athirapally Waterfalls is located about 63 kms. from Thrissur. This waterfall is situated at the entrance of the Sholayar ranges. This 80 foot high waterfall is a popular picnic spot.

Vazhachal Waterfalls

Vazhachal Waterfalls are located after just a short drive from Athirapally Waterfalls. This picturesque spot is located close to dense green forest land and is a part of the Chalakudy river. Athirapally and Vazhachal Waterfalls are the famous waterfalls of Kerala which attract tourists in plenty.

Adyanpara

Adyanpara is located in the Kurumbalangode village of Nilambur Taluk, about 15 kms. away from Nilambur. Adyanpara is famous for its waterfalls and the splendour of the wooded jungle surrounding it. This waterfall is a spectacle of unrivalled grandeur. The wild beauty of this place is a rare treat for the eyes and heart of the travelers.

Chethalayam Waterfalls

Chethalayam Waterfalls is located about 12 kms from Sulthan Bathery. One has to trek around 4 kms from Chethalayam for having a glimpse of this lovely waterfall.

Meenmutty Waterfalls

Meenmutty Waterfalls is located 12 kms. east of Meppadi. It is a cascading waterfall in three tiers, falling from a height of 500 meters.
