Enchey Monastery
The Enchey monastery is one of the most important monasteries of Sikkim. This monastery is located very close to the Sinolchu Tourist Lodge and the TV Tower in Gangtok. This monastery is located in a dense wood and one can view the Kanchendzonga range. This old Buddhist monastery was built during the reign of Thutob Namgyal. The monastery belongs to the Nyingmapa order and about 200 years old. This monastery has various images of gods, goddesses. This monastery has about 90 monks. The three gods which are worshiped here are Buddha, Loki Sharia and Guru Padmasambhava.

The Enchey Monastery is built on the site blessed by Lama Druptob Karpo, a tantric master known for his power of flying. Lama Druptob Karpo is supposed to have built a small hermitage at this spot after he flew here from Maenam Hill more than two hundred years ago. Later during the reign of Sidkeong Tulku, this monastery was built here in 1901 in the form of a Chinese Pagoda. Over 200 years old, Enchey has within its precincts of great veneration and antiquity.

Festivals in Enchey Monastery
The annual Puja (worship) is also celebrated in the monastery on the 18th & 19th days of the twelfth month of the lunar calendar. During this festival, "Chaam" or the annual religious masked dance is performed in this monastery. Singhe Chaam, a lesser known dance is also performed once for every three years at the monastery. Pang Lhabsol festival is also an important festival which is also celebrated in this monastery. This festival marks the swearing of blood-brotherhood between the Bhutias and Lepchas which had Khangchendzonga as a witness.
