BIRD NEWS: GOLDENEYE SPOTTED AFTER SEVEN YEARS NEAR DEHRADUN

Dehradun: The common goldeneye, a migratory bird belonging to the duck family that usually moves to warmer climes from as far away as Canada, North America, Mexico, Europe and some other areas, has been spotted in India after seven long years. Earlier in January, the birds were spotted at the Assan Barrage, on the route to Dehradun, an area declared as IBA (important bird area) by the Bombay Natural History Society. The two male goldeneyes were spotted by a Dehradun birder. The common goldeneye spends winters as far as it can in large expanses of water, including the European and Asian coasts. It is easily discernible by the circular white spot around the eyes.
