There
are atleast three mythological stories associated with Tandi.
1) Tandi is believed to means Tan Dehi, i.e., giving up of the
body. This is linked with Draupadi, the wife of Pandav. as, who
left her body at this place.
2) Second, this is believed that Rishi Vashishtha who meditated
near the hot water springs of Manali was cremated at this
convergence; hence named Tandi, i.e., body consumed.
3) A legend says that there were two lovers, Chandra being the
daughter of the Moon and Bhaga the son of the Sun god. To
perform there eternal marriage, they decided to climb to the
Baralacha La & from there they ran in opposite directions.
Chandra being active and smart easily found her way &reached
Tandi after covering the distance of 115 kms. Soon Bhaga was
found coming with great struggle through the narrow gorges to
Tandi where they both met and their celestial marriage was
performed. Thus flowing south-east and south-west both met at
Tandi to enter the marriage. Bhaga covered about 60 kms.
distance which was very tough.
Another village above the convergence is Gushal which looks very
wonderful when seen from Tupchiling or Kargha. The convergence
itself is best seen from Tupchiling, Kargha and Ghushal. |
