About
Bidar |
Bidar is a city in Karnataka, India. It is located on the
Deccan Plateau in the north-eastern part of Karnataka. It is
the headquarters of the Bidar District which shares its border
with Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. It is the northernmost
district of Karnataka. It is also called as peak of Karnataka.
Recently Bidar was ranked 22nd among the cleanest cities in
India, and 5th cleanest in Karnataka. It is linked with NH9
and NH218 and whole city is integrated with 4 lane road.Bidar
city is famous for its Bidri handicraft products. Manjira
River is one of the main rivers which supplies drinking water
to Bidar .
One other aspect of charm of Bidar is that it is full of
history- every village and town being replete with monuments,
legends, stories of valour, romance of beautiful princesses,
long forgotten battles, feuding military adventurers and even
of social reform movements that shook the very foundation and
structure of medieval Hinduism.
Bidar is remote, hovering in the north eastern corner of
Karnataka, but closer to Hyderabad than it's own state's big
cities. Whole streets of Bidar has the odd appearance of
having been shattered open with a bulldozer. It was like, the
interiors of houses having been exposed to the street this
way, families had retreated into the second layer of the
building, leaving a strange and ruinous feel to the roads.
Doors were painted with light colours in a way that looked
almost Mexican. There was a Lord-of-the-Rings-esque watchtower
in the centre of this old town, and to its north stood the
Kwaja Mahmud Gawan Madrasa - a great living ruin, where locals
were gathering for afternoon prayers. This old town was also
enclosed within a wall, like the fort, and outside of this
wall was the remainder of 'modern', dusty Bidar, clinging to
the south and west, with the usual clammer of traffic and
roadside fruit markets.
A few kilometres out of town, at Ashtur, the road suddenly
weaves through remarkable, ruinous stone tombs. These are of
the Bahmani rulers who built Bidar Fort.. The landscapes of
Bidar are unbelievable. On the south of Bidar lies the district
of Gulbarga of Karnataka. This central position in the Deccan
had imparted to Bidar for long time, the most excellent
position in the history of the Deccan although today it
presents a picture of centuries of neglect and ruin. It was
also known as Mohamad-e-Bidar and under the control of Hindus
it became as Bidar |
