Daporijo is a census town in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is the headquarters of Upper Subansiri district which is home land of four ethnic groups viz. Galo, Tagin, Hillmiri and Nah tribes. And of different belief background viz. Christianity, Donyi Poloism and Animism. Daporijo is located at an altitude of 600 meters above sea-level, the town is known for its rich variety of flora and fauna and its ethnic diversity.  

It is 327 km from Itanagar and 160 km from Ziro and is the headquarters of Upper Subansiri district situated by the side of the Subansiri River. Daporijo is a small scenic town where one can see suspension bridges over Subansiri River made from bamboo and cane - a testimony of rich tribal craftsmanship. The Sigem-Daporijo Reserve forest and Kamala Reserve forest with its rich avi-fauna diversity are worth seeing. Subansiri River is also ideal for river rafting, angling and picnic.

Around the town there are a few caves that can be seen as well and these can also be visited. Some trekking spots can be seen in and around the town of Daporijo.Museum and Craft Centre are other places which could hold your interest. The town is known for being home to different tribal communities of the region, and the culture here is a unique mix of the different tribal groups with their own distinctive culture and tradition. In fact, the indigenous handicrafts and artifacts made by the local people are quite colourful and unique, and give the place its own identity.

The town is known for being an ideal place for trekking and nature walks. There are quite a few beautiful trekking trails which are famous for trekking expeditions and are the best way to explore the natural magnificence of the town and the adjoining landscape. The Subansiri River which is close to the town is good for adventure activities like rafting and angling and adds to the beauty of the scenery around.  

The bamboo handicrafts and colourful garments are amazing souvenirs to carry home and are easily available in the local handicraft market. The main livelihood of the people in the town especially among the women population, is weaving, along with handicraft making, animal husbandry and some bit of farming.

The villages around the town are best to witness and closely experience the tribal life of the region. There are a number of wonderful tribal villages like Raga, Tamin and Mori which can be visited.

Daporijo is beautiful with greenery all around and a variety of flora and fauna. The winter months, especially October and November, are believed to be a good time to visit the place since the weather during this time is pleasurable and ideal for walking around and venturing out on treks. As of 2001 India census, Daporijo had a population of 15,468. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Daporijo has an average literacy rate of 59%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 66% and, female literacy is 51%. In Daporijo, 19% of the population is under 6 years of age.

The town of Daporijo is located in the Upper Subansiri district of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The town is home to many different ethnic groups and each has its own culture and traditions. One can observe a mix of these cultures in the town and some of the minority groups are Tagin, Galo, Nah and Hilmiri.

The town of Daporijo is a picturesque one with a varied collection of flora and fauna. The lush hills and the forests provides a beautiful view to the visitors of this town. Daporijo is well known for the trekking routes and nature walks. There are lot of trekking routes in and around the town. The Subansiri river flowing nearby also provides good rafting and angling opportunities.

Meghna Cave temple
Meghna Cave temple is located in Daporijo. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a popular tourist place. There are also a number of hill caves and beautiful hamlets in Doparijo for tourists to view.  The Meghna Cave Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is a beautiful temple here and is a popular place of visit. There are quite a few scenic locations, a few hill caves and beautiful hamlets near the town which are perfect for day trips from Daporijo.

Dumporijo Town
Dumporijo town is next to Daporijo and is just 13 Km away from Daporijo towards Basar-Likabali road. Dumporijo is inhabitant of Galo and Tagin ethnic peoples. There is a Christian Prayer Centre (Prayer House) at Kamru of Dumporijo which is run by Arunachal Pradesh Christian Revival Church (APCRC) Area-V.The town of Damporijo, is located about 13 kilometers from the town of Daporijo, is also worth visiting and there is a Christian prayer house that is located here. The place is known for its extreme beauty and there are many scenic places that are located here. The town is located along the banks of the River Subansiri. The different tribes in the region make it colorful and there are many local festivals that are celebrated here. There are many villages that are located in the region of Daporijo and these make for fascinating day trips and one can experience tribal life in its rawest form, in these places.

There are also a number of villages in an Daporijo like Raga, Tamin and Mori which are worth watching.

The town of Daporijo can be reached using buses, taxis and flights. The town is connected by road to most of the nearby towns and taxis are the most used mode of transport.

By Rail
The nearby railway station is located at a place called North Lakhimpur. The station is linked to the town of Tinsukia. Tickets are cheap and this is the most comfortable mode of transport.

By Road
One can reach the town of Daporijo using buses from either Itanagar or Lilabari. Buses are operated by the government and they breakdown very often. They are not very comfortable and often crowded.

By Air
The nearest airport is located at Lilabari and it receives flights from Guwahati and Dibrugarh. These are common and this is good option if you are planning to arrive by air. The Lilabari airport is located near the town and one can hire taxis from here to reach the town of Daporijo.
