Information about Spice Coast Cruises
|
|
Spice Coast Cruises are the traditional houseboat cruises
located on the Kottayam backwaters in Kerala. The Spice Coast
Cruises provides cruise rides in the backwaters spread around
canals of Alleppey and Kumarakom. The main attraction of the
backwaters are the traditional houseboats, also known as 'Kettuvallom'.
These houseboats were used for housing, transport, commuting,
commerce and pleasure. These houseboats combine holidaying,
pleasure boating and ecological living in an
exhilarating way and offers the visitors an |
entirely
new kind of experience in Kerala. The boat hulls are
made from seasoned 'Anjili' (Jackfruit) logs, that have
a natural gentle curvature. Keels are flat, because the
rivers here can get mighty shallow at times, and also
allow the boat to be easily punted. The boats come with
a quiet outboard motor too, so the boatman can get some
rest. The winged awnings, when raised, provide the
houseboat a distinctly rakish air. As per the legends,
this is due to the Chinese influence. A typical stay in
the Hotel Spice Coast Cruises is for the two nights
which covers the entire stretch of the backwaters. |
