Martham Village-Resort |
Martham Village Resort is situated in serene countryside which
is about 10 minutes drive away from Rumtek and about 40
minutes drive from Gangtok. The 14 room accommodations are in
thatched cottages built in traditional style to combine with
the surrounding village. Each room are twin beded with
attached bath room. The resturant and dinning hall is small
and cozy. The rooms are simple and clean without any luxury
but have the charm of the simplicity. There is no
air-conditioning and it is never required.
The resort is set in the peaceful surroundings of the village.
It is a mainly paddy growing village and this is clearly seen
by the numerous terraced fields cultivated by the villagers.
The village itself consists of sprinkled clumps of inhabited
areas made up of the three ethnic communities of Sikkim i.e
Lepcha, Bhutia and Nepalese. The resort overlooks a wide
valley of terraced fields and is bounded by rich forest
covered hills, which form a part of the Phambongla Wild Life
Sanctuary.
This is the perfect location for visitors who love nature or
adventure and for those seeking peace and relaxation. Guests
may enjoy a short trek to the top of the hills to see the rich
and unique Himalayan flora and fauna or enjoy the fabled
Sikkimese hospitality among the villagers.

Accommodation is in 14 thatched cottages built in traditional
style to blend with the surrounding village. Each room has
attached bath with modern facilities. The cottages have twin
bedded rooms with large picture windows framing the amazing
countryside.

Attractive and excellent restaurant has a comfortable dining
hall and bar serving tasty cuisine, including local food and
drinks. One can also watch folk dances and the dance of the
medicine man performed by the villagers. |

Local
food and drinks are served at the attractive and cozy dining
hall and bar. The guests are offered the opportunity to taste
the forest produce such as nettles, ferns, bamboo shoots,
mushrooms etc which are gathered by the local people, fresh from
the forest, combined with the locally grown rice. The local
drink chang' is also served in freshly cut bamboos. Besides
this, Indian, Chinese, Continental cuisine is also on the menu.
The staff, at the resort are all from the village. Prior to
working at the resort they had little or no experience in
working at a hotel. However their genuine and natural attitude
to always help and be of service to others combined with the
culture of hospitality towards outsiders inbuilt in the
Sikkimese in general has gone a long way in keeping guests happy
and comfortable during their stay in the hotel. The resort has
also provided an alternate form of employment, direct and
indirect for the people of the village. |

Martam Village Resort is located at Martam in East Sikkim.
The resort is about 34 kms from Gangtok and is about an
hour drive from the capital city. The Resort owns its own
Vehicles, trekking and camping equipment, mountain bikes
and fishing equipment.
The resort can be reached via Rumtek monastery if you are
coming from Gangtok, the other way to reach Martam is to
travel to Singtam and from there going to Martam via
Sirwani and Sang. If you are travelling to Martam from
west or south Sikkim, you would probably take the second
route. |

How to Reach Martam Village Resort |
Martam Village Resort is located in the village of Martam in
East Sikkim. This is about 34 kilometres (or an hour's drive)
from Gangtok the capital of Sikkim.
There are two approaches ahead of Gangtok that one can take to
reach the resort from the border of West Bengal and Sikkim,
namely:
a). Rangpo Ranipul Rumtek Martam.
b). Rangpo Singtam Sirwani Bridge - Sang Martam. |
