Singalila Ridge |
The
Singalila Ridge is a north-south running mountain ridge in
northwestern West Bengal, India. The district of Ilam in Nepal
falls on the western part of this ridge, and the northern
ridge ends up in Sikkim, the Indian part of the Himalayas. It
divides mountain ranges of West Bengal from other Himalayan
ranges to its west. The two highest peaks of West Bengal,
Sandakphu (3,636 m (11,929 ft)) and Phalut (3,600 m (11,800
ft)) are situated on the ridge. The Singalila National Park
encompasses the ridge. It is well-known for its views of Mount
Everest and Kanchenjunga. The trek from Manebhanjan to
Sandakphu and Phalut is popular.
The four highest peaks are :
• Sabargram 3,543 m (11,624 ft)
• Tonglu 3,036 m (9,961 ft)
• Sandakfu 3,636 m (11,929 ft) - the highest point in
West Bengal
• Falut 3,600 m (11,800 ft) |

Singalila Range |
The
ever green Singalila range spans across the borders of Sikkim,
West Bengal and Nepal. Verdant valleys, dazzling lakes,gushing
rivers, thick forests crowded with wildlife and birds
illustrates this amazing mountain range. Yambong valley is one
such treasure trove placed in a remote part of West Sikkim. |

Trekking |
The
Singalila Ridge divides Sikkim from Eastern Nepal. It extends
from Darjeeling all the way to Kangchenjunga to the North and
affords the finest views of Kangchenjunga, at 8586 m the world's
third highest mountain, as well as isolated views of Everest.The
ridge is deeply forested with oak and rhododendron forest and
has fantastic views of several well known peaks- Lhotse, Makalu,
Everest, Chomolhari and Kangchenjunga.
Sikkim is one of India's most beautiful states which is located
between India and Tibet, bordered by Nepal, Bhutan and West
Bengal. The population is mainly Buddhist and with the very high
rainfall experienced by the eastern Himalaya (nothing stands
between Sikkim and the Bay of Bengal to stop the rain) making it
very lush with a rich flora and fauna. Over 700 species of birds
have been recorded in Sikkim and more than 4000 species of
flowering plants.
The trek starts from the village of Nambu which is located at
the base of the valley. Then Climbs through the Yambong valley,
criss-crossing the Rimbi river and meandering through the
densely forested slopes. While reaching at high point named
Daphe Bhir amazing views of the Khangchendzonga and Everest
ranges indicates. In spring time the whole slopes are converted
into a riot of colour as the rhododendrons come in full bloom.
The trek along the ridge has been a popular one since the days
of the British Raj. This is a amusing walk through wonderful
forests, gaining fabulous views of the high Himalayas.Wonderful
flowers in spring but the best views are in Autumn.
The Singalila Ridge rises steadily form the steamy lowlands of
the Indian plains to the magnificent, icy vastness of
Kangchenjunga, at 8,586m the world’s third highest peak. |

Lower Singalila Ridge |
A fairly easy circuit up onto the lower (southern)
Singalila Ridge.Trek through wonderful mountains, forest
and giant rhododendrons and magnolias.Enjoy outstanding
views of the snow-clad peaks of the high Himalayas.This is
a high, remote walk in mountains, on which you will have
to be self sufficient: be prepared. |
