The image of the deity (murti) was brought from Vrindavan here by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II, who built the pink city, Jaipur. According to famous myth, Lord Krishna's image in the temple appears very similar to the Krishna's form during his life on Earth. The deity initially belonged to Srila Rupa Goswami who was a devotee of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. The temple of Lord Govind Dev Ji is devoted to Lord Krishna and clearly depicts of the royal history of Jaipur city. The temple is a prominent symbol of the architecture of Jaipur as seen during the rule of the Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of the city. It is a very significant religious and holy place for Hindus, particularly among the devotees of Lord Krishna.

History of Govind Dev Ji Temple

The statue of Lord Govind Dev Ji was taken to Jaipur by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II from Vrindavan to his dwelling, Surya Mahal. The king was enthused by a dream, in which Lord Krishna told him to fix the statue in his palace, to save it from being demolished by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Afterwards he built another palace, Chandra Mahal, which became his dwelling.

Myth Associated with Govind Dev Ji Temple

According to the myth, the sacred Image of Lord Govind Devji was also called "Bajrakrit" which clearly explains that it was built by Bajranabh – The Grand Son of Lord Krishna.

At very olden times, more than about 4500 years back, when Shri Bajranabh was about 12-13 years old, he asked his Grand Mother (daughter-in-law of Lord Krishna) as to how Lord Shri Krishna looked like; Then he prepared a picture as per the explanation given by her. After he made the image then she said that not the whole image bears any resemblance to Lord Krishna, only the Feet of that picture is very similar to that of Lord Krishna.

He made another picture, then she said that only the upper part of the image is similar to that of Lord Shri Krishna. Finally, He made the Third Image and looking at this image she felt embarrassed and tell him that yes that the picture looks exactly like Lord Shri Krishna.

The first image made by him is popular with the Name Lord "Madan Mohanji". The second picture is known as Lord "Gopi Nathji" and the Third One, The Live celestial magnificent sacred Image is known as Lord "Govind Devji". With the passing of time the wonders of the Indian Culture were being elapsed and the sands of time kept piling up. Along with every other thing these religious and celestial pictures were also lost from the memories of people.

Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was born in India and did the huge work to take away the layers of unawareness & put back in our lives the forgotten vigor of huge magnificent history of Vrindavn Dham which has become almost a Jungle by the early 16th Century.

No outline of the original place was seen at the site. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had visited the place in 1514 A.D. and had revealed some of the places stated in the Bhagvat Purana. But he was not able to reside at this place for a long time to reveal the entire Glory of The Place. For Vaishnavites, mostly followers of Lord Krishna, this is one of the most prominent shrines situated outside Vrindavan. 'Bhog' and 'Aartis' are offered 7 times in a day, at the time of 'Darshan' of deity to the devotees. Number of devotees visit the shrine daily and specially people visit this temple during Janmashtami.
