Ramgarh
Lake was a man-made lake which is located close to Jamwa Ramgarh in
the state of Rajasthan, India. The lake received water last time in
the year 1999 and become dry since 2000. Ramgarh
Lake is about 30 kms from Jaipur and when it is filled with water it
spreads over an area of 15.5 square kms. Earlier, the lake was the
major basis for the supply of water to the city of Jaipur. Ramgarh
Lake is a very famous place for picnic, mostly after the rainy season.
The dense
forest surrounding the lake and the nearby areas is home to different
type of wild animals like neelgai, chital and lions and was declared a
wildlife sanctuary in the year 1982 by the Government of India.
There are ruins of an old fort and shrines of
Jambwa Mata also.

History of
Ramgarh Lake

Ramgarh
was once a hunting place for the Maharajas of Jaipur. Over the years,
the area has been converted into a heritage place. The heritage hotel at Ramgarh now
stands regally overlooking the Ramgarh Lake which extends over an area
of about 15.5 sq. kms.
At the
time of 1982 Asian Games a rowing event was held on Ramgarh Lake. The dense
forest near Ramgarh Lake is residence of many wildlife species such as
lions, Chital and Neelgai.
Hence, it has been declared a Wildlife
Sanctuary by the Government of India since 1982.

Ramgarh Lake extends over an area of about 5 kms, it is a very famous
tourist spot in Ramgarh.
The lake also offers recreation facilities
like boating between the months of October and June.
The Polo
ground at Ramgarh is considered as one of the finest Polo grounds of
India. It is situated between the Aravalli Hills and Ramgarh Lake.
Another prominent attraction in Ramgarh is
the shrine of Jamwa Mata.
The temple
is located at a downward path of Ramgarh Lake. It was founded by Rao
Dulherao of the Kachhwaha tribe of Jaipur.

Season to visit Ramgarh is from October to March. Ramgarh
Lake, with its picturesque beauty, is enclosed by striking wildlife
species, mainly birds, and is also a well-known Polo ground.
The Jamwa Mata temple and the hunting lodge, all combine to make it a
prominent tourist spot in Jaipur.
This lake
is the most preferred picnic place for locals. So, Ramgarh is a worth
visit place in Jaipur.
