History of Akshardham Temple

Akshardham temple at Gandhinagar is an ancestor to the Akshardham at Delhi, founded by the same religious organisation, Bochasanwasi Akshar-Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) led by Pramukh Swami Maharaj. It was founded in November 2, 1992.

Exhibition Halls of Akshardham Temple

Three permanent exhibition halls have been built to educate the visitor on sacred movement.

Hall 1: Sahajanand
The life of Swaminarayan is described through imaginative shows and settings. The exhibition consists of 'travel in time' through a video show; a fiber-optics cosmos; a miniature amusement of Chhapiya village; 'sound-n-light' shows, and 'Journey through India'.

Hall 2: Sat-Chit-Anand
Sat Chit Anand hall is used to present an IMAX large format film named Mystic India. Mystic India is the first large-format epic on India. Depicting the unbelievable trip of Neelkanth, as Swaminarayan was known in his teenage years, through the heart and soul of India, it rediscovers a land enriched with the wealth of spirituality, culture and wisdom.

This hall once housed an amazing 14-screen multimedia presentation, "Integrovision", to present an exhibition of Vedic philosophy and of man's search for the everlasting truth, through breath-taking imagery. In addition to the presentation, the exhibition also includes a 'Tunnel of Mirrors,' dancing musical fountains and a glass mosaic.

Hall 3: Nityanand
Walk-through dioramas and fiberglass figures exhibits the message of the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Upanishads. The show includes a recreation of a tranquil Gurukul situated in the lap of nature; an audio-animatronics show; an activity of the Hastinapur palace from the Mahabharata; exciting compositions of saint-poets; and an exhibition on 'Harmony of religions of the world '.
