Day 01. Flight to Nepal (Kathmandu)
Around Midnight arrival in Nepal. The cosmopolitan City and the
capital
Kathmandu is the main gateway for travellers to
Nepal. You are met by an Indo Vacations representative and
transferred to your Hotel. In the afternoon we enjoy the first
impression of Kathmandu.
Kathmandu Valley is the
cultural and political heart of the country. The city enjoyed its
most glorious time under the reign of Mallas in the 16th and 17th
century. In the afternoon we visit from the Thamel market.
Day 02. Kathmandu Excursion: Swayambunath, Pashupatinath, Bodnath
In the morning we start our sightseeing by visiting
Durbar Square. Durbar Square
is the spiritual heart of Kathmandu. The old royal palace at the
centre of the city was surrounded by temples and other important
buildings. This is the most important point in Kathmandu to observe
the culture and religion of Nepal. A visit of the temple of living godess Kumari is also a part of our today's Programme. After the
visit of Durbar Square we proceed to visit Swayambhunath. The stupa
at Swayambhunath is the most important and oldest site of Buddhist
worship in Nepal. Swayambhunath Stupa is famous for the eyes of
Buddha which seem to observing the world from all 4 directions.
After Swayambhunath we visit the temple city of Pashupatinath which
is Nepal's most important Hindu pilgrim site on the banks of the
Bagmati river.
The temple of Pashupatinath is dedicated to god Shiva. Pashupatinath
is one of the seven most important holy cities to Hindus. After the
visit of Pashupatinath we visit Bodnath.
Bodnath is the largest Stupa of Nepal.
Around the octagonal base of Stupa there are 108 images of Buddha
where prayer ceremonies of Buddhist Lamas are taking place since
over 2000 years.
Day 03.
Kathmandu - Chitwan National Park (about 194 kms)
Today we leave the world of mountains and
drive to the south of Nepal to the Royal Chitwan National park. This
National Park is situated near the Indian Nepal border. The area of
the National Park covers around 950 square km. The
Chitwan National park is the
natural habitat of the Tiger, great one-horned Indian rhinoceros,
leopard, gaur, sloth and wild bear, sambar. In the evening a
cultural evening is provided with local folk dances.
Day 04.
Chitwan National Park
In the early morning you will have a jungle safari in the Chitwan
National Park penetrating through lush grasslands to view wildlife.
This grass is commonly known as elephant grass and is very dense and
grows to a height of 18-20 ft. In the afternoon we take a ride in
Canoe on the Narayani river where there are very good chances of
viewing the gharial crocodiles as well as the mugger crocodiles,
fresh water dolphins, Otters and varieties of water birds.
Day 05. Chitwan National Park - Lumbini (about
125
kms)
Today we drive through the foothills of the Himalayas on to Lumbini
(UNESCO World Heritage Site). The place
Lumbini is regarded by Buddhists
as a sanctuary, because here about 2,500 years ago Buddha
(Siddhartha Gautama Shakya) was born as a prince in a kingdom. The
famous Ashoka Pillar and the temple of Maya Devi are the monuments
of this event. Through the support of Buddhists from all over the
world Lumbini became one of the most important pilgrimage sites. We
visit the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of
Buddhism. We take a rickshaw ride
through the park (Lumbini Garden) and visit the Mayadevi temple and
one of the many monasteries.
Day 06. Lumbini - Tansen (about
85
kms)
After a short ride on the Sidhartha Highway we reach the place
Tansen. From here we view the wonderful views of the mountains of
the Himalayas. Today we
visit some temples in Tansen (Bhagwati Temple, Siddhi Binyak Temple
and Laxmi Narayan Temple). Tansen was once an important trading
center and this place has able to retain much of its original charm.
We walk through the bazaar of Tansen and the area from Tansen
Bazaar.
Day 07. Tansen
- Pokhara (about 126 kms)
Today we drive from Tansen to Pokhara. Arrival in
Pokhara. Rest of the day free
for leisure.
Day 08. Pokhara
Today we have a walking tour (about 5-6 hours). We walk through
hazelnut and hall woods on the crest of the Sundari Danda. We walk
through the villages of the mountains and the twin lakes Rupa and
Begnas. In the afternoon we visit Deurali Temple, and then we go to
Begnas lake.
Day 09. Pokhara
Early
morning sunrise tour to Sarangkot direction (if the weather
permits). After a walk of about 40 minutes, we reach the top of
Sarangkot. After Sarangkot in the afternoon we walk to the north of
Pokhara (about 4 hours) through traditional villages. We cross the
rivers Mardi and Seti and enjoy unparalleled views of the Annapurnas
to sunset. And then we drive back to the hotel.
Day 10. Pokhara
- Bandipur (about 76 kms)
Today morning we drive to Bandipur. The medieval town of
Bandipur is located on
the former trade route between
Tibet and Kathmandu, and is known
not only for cultural diversity but also for a unique view of the
Himalayan range from Dhaulagiri to Ganesh Himalaya.
Day 11.
Bandipur - Dhulikhel (about 175 kms)
Today we drive to Dhulikhel
enroute we visit Patan.
Patan was the second largest
town in the valley but it has been absorbed into Kathmandu. Patan
was previously known as Lalitpur (the beautiful city). The famous
King Ashoka built the Stupas at four corners in the 250 BC. The
temple architecture here gave this city fame to be unique and most
beautiful. Before we continue on the road to Duhlikhel, we also a
visit a Tibetan refugee camp. Then we drive to Dhulikhel. This place
is located at 1650 m altitude and offers in good weather and
stunning views of the Himalayas.
Day 12. Dhulikhel - Namobuddha - Dhulikhel (about
7- 8 hours)
After breakfast we start the full day hike in the surrounding area
of Dhulikhel. Our walk takes you through pine forests up to a hill
to the stupa of Namobuddha, which is an important place of
pilgrimage. Then we goes back down towards the valley of Kathmandu.
On the way back we will visit a Newari village and then we drive
to Duhlikel.
Day 13. Dhulikhel
- Nagarkot (about 7 hours)
Today we drive to Nagarkot. Located 2170
meters above sea level, Nagarkot an ideal vantage point on the
Himalayas. On a clear day here we have the whole panorama of
Anupurna and Mount Everest.
Day 14. Nagarkot
- Telkot (about
25 km) - Hike Changunarayan (about 2 hours) - Bhaktapur (about 7 km)
- Kathmandu (about
15 kms)
Today we first drive about 25 km. to the place
Telkot and from here take about two hour hike and reach the famous
temple of Changunarayan (the
oldest Vishnu temples of Nepal). And then we drive further to
Bhaktapur. In the afternoon we visit the third largest city
of Nepal, the royal city of Bhaktapur (UNESCO World Heritage) The
"Golden Gate", the "Palace of 55 windows" (15th century) and Pagoda
Nyatapola (18th century). Then drive to the hotel.
Day 15. Kathmandu
Optional: Tomorrow morning Himalayan scenic flight, currently
costs about $ 160 per person including airport transfer
(highest mountains in the world). Afternoon is a visit to Bungamati
and Khokana. Bungamati is a small Newari village, pursue the
residents still their old professions of wood carving and
agriculture as in the old times. Nearby is the other Newari village
named Khokhana . Here is a famous temple of the female deity Durga
is (incarnation of
Goddess Kali). Tonight we enjoy
the last farewell dinner this trip in a typical Nepalese Restaurant
(local dance and cultural evening).
Day 16. Depart from Kathamndu
Today
morning is a half-day excursion to
Dakshinkali Temple. The
temple of Dakshinkali is a Hindu pilgrimage site and place of
sacrifice of goddess Kali. In this temple of the goddess Kali
(reincarnation of Goddess Durga) are still housed in Dakshinkali
twice a week (Tuesday and Saturday) animal sacrifice.
In the afternoon we drive to the airport for onwards journey.
