From August till April
we organise camel Safaris in the Thar desert of Rajasthan. During the camel safaris all your needs
will be taken care of. You will be escorted by local people who speak the
local language as well as are able to communicate with you in
English. If the Safaris are planned for the longer duration
we will get the tents erected in the desert and our Master cook
and his team will take care that fresh food is cooked and served. You will be served fresh cooked meals (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner as well as coffee and Tea breaks with the snacks will be there). You will ride in a day
for around 15 to 30 Kilometres. The distance will be covered in two spells before and after lunch. The covered distance can be regulated as per your wish to have a long ride or a short one. You
can have the small breaks in between and get down to have photographs or visit the villages you ride through.
In the evening near a village on a sand dune, tents will be erected to spend the
overnight. Please be informed that during these two days it would not be possible to erect luxury tents as this needs a lot of time to erect and establish them
and it is not worth of one or two nights
So there will be simple tents without toilets and one has to use the option of using vast free land
for toilet as this is usual in desert.
At our base desert camp there will be luxury tents with all the modern facilities including modern toilets and there would be cultural programmes
in the evening with campfire etc. As far as a travel route for the camel safari is concerned it would start from your base camp which is around 40
Kilometres. from Jaisalmer. Rest of the route would be through the villages according to the distance to be covered. At the base camp as well as during the Camel Safaris you have the choice of sleeping in the tents or outside
on the provided beds etc. under the stars. We recommend to carry
the sleeping bags as in the desert the temperature at night may
fall considerably.
We also arrange conferences and different kind of events at our
Base desert camp. Please feel free to contact us for more details.
The Team of Indo Vacations look forward to welcome you in the Thar
Desert of Rajasthan !
More About Camel
Safaris in Rajasthan
There can be no better way of experiencing life in the thar desert
than through a journey into its main vast land on camel's back.
Special tours for small and large groups can be arranged so that
you can camp near to a village, participating and observing
different aspects of village life without disturbing the local
people.
We
at Indo Vacations make it for sure that halts are arranged just
outside the village, and from here you can observe life around the
village community. It is particularly interesting to watch the
life of villagers as early morning the day starts and people start
their activities on the field. Children to go to school and group
of cattle arrival at perhaps the only water well of the village.
Your meals will be cooked over a wood fire or kerosene stove. And
after a fulfilled day when you lie down to sleep you will see the
vast numbers of starts in the clear sky up above. Having camped
this way you would get the feeling of the people who had camped
this way while travelling with their camel caravans through
the desert until recent past. This kind of camping has been a real
practice until the caravan route to middle east was alive
and ships and harbours were not introduced to the country known as
Hindustan. Business people would travel via Rajasthani through
Pakistan and Afghanistan till Iran and other Arabian countries and
the local people of Rajasthan befitted through them by landing
them animals and collecting taxes and this used to be the main
source of the income for a vast community of Rajasthan which
brought enormous wealth reflecting in the richness of the Havellis
and Palaces of Rajasthan.
We
at Indo Vacations advice you to make the Safari in small groups.
We advice to plan on traveling for up to 4 to 6 hours a day,
covering maximum a distance of 30-40 km. You should carry carry
dinking water. Take a good sun cream to protect the skin. A
large hat is ideal and better then a cap or go for the option of
wearing turban as local Rajasthani people do. One should wear
loose fitting cotton clothes. Be smiling and do not talk to the
village women unless you are addressed as this could bring some
misunderstandings. One should not forget to take comfortable
shoes. They should not be heavy so they are easy to walk in the
sand.
Indo Vacations Camel safari itineraries are quite flexible, and
can be taken from most points in Rajasthan, and can vary
from a few hours on just an afternoon of your otherwise planed
tour or over many days just concentrating on the focal points "camels
and desert" These safaris can also include visits to larger cities
to see the attractions of the former princely kingdoms or can be
limited to the villages of Rajasthan. For those looking for luxury
accommodation we can also include visits to smaller towns with
heritage hotels so that sleeping in the tents or under the open
sky can be avoided if wished so.
Rajasthan is offering so many possible areas of Camel Safari so we
do not call any area as the best areas for camel safaris. However
Shekhawati region, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Pushkar are
the most frequently chosen area when it comes to camel Safari in
the Thar desert of Rajasthan.
A camel is not the
easiest animal on which to ride, You may get the feeling of
uncomfortableness as the camel starts walking, sinks into the
sand. The rocking motion of the camel takes getting used to, and
at first the time seems to pass very slowly. After a while, the
body adjusts to the motion of the camel and starts to move along
with the camel and you experience the silence of the desert, waves
of the sand at its best while being for a few hours on the camel's
back Most of the so called modern world people start respecting
the animals and the local people who live with them the day to to
day life happily in the difficult desert.
