The Losar village in the Spiti Valley
is situated nearby the Indo Chinese border, and lays claim to
being the last livable land before one crosses over to China.
Much similar to Ladakh in appearance, the cold desert offers
its visitors wonderful views, mountains decorated in multiple
colours, and breath-taking views, with the beauty of the place
almost unparalleled anywhere else.
Losar is relatively unfamiliar, with various scenic spots and
each has a uniqueness of its own. Being a cold desert and
relatively unfamiliar by the tourists, the Spiti Valley has
few places of accommodation, although things have surely
improved with time, with various new hotels and home stay
options having come up in the valley of late. The village of
Losar is situated at a height of 13,400 feet, and is located
at a distance of 56 km from Kaza, which is the main town of
Spiti Valley.
Losar is the last and also most popular place where one finds
accommodation in the valley, mainly due to its closeness to
Chandratal or the Moon Lake; its bypassing of the long route
between Kaza – Keylong and Kaza – Manali by about 2.5 hours,
due to which the visitor is saved from the treacherous land of
the Kunzam Pass; and lastly because of the visual enjoyment it
offers to the visitors. Due to the height at which Losar is
situated, acute mountain sickness is a problem encountered
frequently over there, and it is thus essential for the
visitor to be adequately prepared for such emergencies. |
