DO'S and DON'TS
01. Foreigners who wish to overstay, should contact the
nearest Foreigners' Regional Registration Office or the Sadar
Police Station in the towns.
02. Unleaded petrol is available at select stations
only.
03. If traveling in Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti: Petrol
pumps on the route are at Shimla, Theog, Narkanda, Rampur,
Powari, Recong Peo, Kaza, Keylong, Manali and Sarchu.
04. If driving, essential spares and extra fuel are
recommended. A sturdy vehicle (Jeep/Gypsy), is suggested.
05. If crossing the high passes, good health is
essential. Government hospitals are at Keylong, Kaza and
Recong Peo. Dispensaries are available elsewhere. For medical
assistance contact Government hospitals and dispensaries, your
hotel or accredited nursing home/clinics/hospitals.
06. Prescription medicines and sun-screen lotion should
be carried along.
07. The best time to travel in these areas is between
April and October. While planning your trip, it is suggested
that you check on general road conditions and confirm if the
high passes are open to traffic.
08. Don't encourage beggars.
09. Don't be coerced into shopping by touts, guides,
taxi drivers or strangers.
10. Don't buy articles made from rare or endangered
species or animals which are protected.
11. Don't buy antiques to carry overseas. The export of
all articles over a hundred years old is banned.
12. Don't disfigure or scribble over rocks, trees,
buildings etc.
While trekking, picnicking or visiting wild life
sanctuaries:
01. Do not leave behind any non-bio-degradable material
like plastic bottles and cans. Bury all bio-degradable litter.
Dispose all litter carefully. The use of plastic bags is
banned in Himachal.
02. Use only dry fallen twigs for firewood.
03. Avoid big bonfires.
04. Do not wash clothes or rinse soap in water holes.
Animals use this water to drink.
05. Avoid loud music and noise.
06. Use vehicles to a minimum. Where available.
07. Do not damage or remove plants.
08. Do not disturb animals
09. Conserve nature today and it will protect our
tomorrows.
Climate of Himachal Pradesh
Himachal has an enormous range of weather conditions. Most
areas of Bilaspur, Solan, Sirmour, Hamirpur, Kangra and Una,
are largely warm to hot in summer, and mild to pleasant in
winter. The districts of Chamba, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti
and Shimla, are largely mild to pleasant in summer and cold in
winter. Do check the type of clothing and other equipment you
may require for the region you are visiting.
Shopping in Himachal Pradesh
Shop at Government emporia. The prices are reasonable and the
quality ensured. Himachal Pradesh Emporiums are located at
Bilaspur, Chamba, Dharamshala, Kangra, Jwalamukhi, Palampur,
Recong, Peo, Bhabanagar, Mandi, Kullu, Manali, Keylong, Nahan,
Solan, Arki, Shimla, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chandigarh.
You can also buy directly from craftsmen located throughout
Himachal.
Photography
Some monuments and buildings require permission for
photography and filming. Contact the nearest Tourism Office or
the concerned District Administration for guidance and
assistance.
Money and Credit Cards
Change money only at Authorised Foreign Exchange outlets /
Banks / Hotels. Insist on receipt for money changed. Credit
cards are accepted at most shops, restaurants and hotels in
the main towns. Their use is minimal outside them and all
payments are in cash. Keep your valuables in hotel lockers and
safe deposit vaults.
Customs
Observe local traditions and customs - especially while
visiting religious places.
Insurance
Paragliding and rafting are adventure activities and the rates
do not cover any insurance, risk cover, damages, claims etc. A
person coming on adventure tour has to be covered for
adventure travel & activities apart from normal travel
insurance. The company or any of its service providers would
not be liable in any case for any mishap/loss etc.
For journey from Manali to Leh a person should be covered
under travel insurance and the insurance should also include
adventure travel and repatriation by a helicopter. Our
transfer rates for Manali to Leh or vice versa do not include
any travel insurance / repatriation charges / damages / claims
etc. incase of any eventuality.
Transfers
Transfers rates do not include services of a transfer
representative and if required would be charged extra as per
transfer representative services rates.
Also note that for any airport transfers in Kullu / Shimla /
Dharamshala, if on the day of operation of flight, flight is
cancelled on the same day, charges for transfer would be
charged as cancellation charges. Our vehicles report at
airport before any such announcements are made by airline.
Portage if to be included in transfer cost would be charged @
USD 3 per person per transfer. If guests are to be transferred
to/from Hotel Oberoi Clarkes or Willow Banks in Shimla portage
would be charged @ USD 08 per person per transfer.
Sightseeing
Also note that sight seeing tours do not include local guide,
entrance fees to places of visit, portage at hotels / railway
station / airport. If these are payable by us, it would be
charged as extra.
In case transport is not from our end and we have to provide
local guide services or assistance at hotel in Shimla / Manali
/ Dharamsala we would charge @ USD 12 per day extra on guide /
assistance cost as commuting charges for the guide. |
