The landscape here is breath taking. One can see spectacular
views of well-defined snowcapped peaks and wooded slopes.
The Beas River rushes along its rocky course amid grassy meadows
carpeted with wild flowers and wagtails hop along from stone
to stone along the stream's edge. On the other side are deodar
and pine trees, tiny fields and fruit orchards. It is an excellent
place for a holiday, a favorite resort for trekkers to various
regions in Kashmir valley. It is known as the Switzerland of
India. In the evening we have sightseeing

Gondla. We will also cross
Rohtang Pass, which is situated at a height of 3980 m. Rohtang
Pass is an adventurer's dream destination, situated at an
altitude of about 4000 m. This pass is the gateway to the
Lahual region from Manali. A trek to and beyond the pass makes
a trekker's dream come true. Also, we could find a couple
of stud farmers and their beautiful pets grazing through the
lush green meadows. At the top of the Pass the air seems to
glitter against the snow as we look down over herringboned
ridges into the Lahaul Valley. There is a beautiful Doshohar
Lake left to the pass, where pilgrims go every year on the
auspicious day of 20th Bhadon. This is the only access to
Lahaul valley. We have lunch at Gondla. Then we trek towards
Batal. Arrive in Batal by evening. Batal is situated at the
foot of Kunzum pass, which provides the main approach to Spiti
from Lahaul. The panorama as viewed from the top of the pass
is enthralling and inspiring. On the way are the
Bara Shigri
glaciers. Bara meaning big and Shigri meaning glacier in Lahauli
dialect. The view of the Shigri Stream emerging from beneath
a huge iridescent archway of solid ice is a never to be forgotten
sight. The glacier is mountainous mass of solid ice, more
than a kilometer wide and extending over a distance of ten
kilometers. We will spend night in Batal.
Day

can be seen in all its grandeur. The Panorama as viewed from
the top of the Pass is enthralling and inspiring. There is
a temple dedicated to
Kali, known as Kunzam Devi. Rahul was
the son of Buddha and the name Lahaul is derived from Rahul.
After visiting the temple we start trekking 12 km to
Chandratal.
A pleasant 4 hrs walk and the Chandratal will appear. Chandratal
means the Lake of Moon. This lake of exquisite beauty is set
on a large meadow of edelweiss between a lower ridge and the
main Kunzum range with an outlet into the Chandra River. A
beautiful view of the Samudra Tapoo glacier and of Mulkila
