The Deccan Odyssey train has 21 coaches, out of which 11 are passenger cars with 43 twin or double bedded cabins. There are 2 Presidential Suite Cars with four suite cabins and one cabin is specially meant for the physically challenged. The train also has a conference car, with small business centre that can be redesigned as dance floor in the night. This conference car can host about 50 guests and has the facility of Satellite communication, Internet, computer, printer, fax and telephone. There are also two restaurant cars, a bar cum lounge car and a Spa Car. Besides this, there are generator cars with luggage store and staff car or spare car. All Passenger cars have private attached bathroom with shower, telephone and television. Each passenger car is serviced by a common attendant, who is available round the clock for personalised service. Some of the facilities which are available in the train are the Library, Bar, Channel Music, Ayurvedic Massage Centre, Steam Bath, Gymnasium, Beauty Parlour and mini pantry.
Deccan Odyssey Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Wednesday - Mumbai
In the evening, you will start your journey on the Deccan Odyssey train from the Chatrapati Shivaji
Terminus in Mumbai. You will also enjoy your dinner on board.
Day 2: Thursday - Jaigadh, Ganapatipule, Ratnagiri
In the morning, the Deccan Odyseey train arrives at Bhoke Railway Station. After having breakfast, you will reach Rai Bhatgaon Jetty by an air-conditioned bus to visit the historical Jaigadh fort. After visiting the Jaigarh fort, you will board the bus to explore finest beach along the Konkan coast. Enjoy the whole day and have lunch at Ganapatipule Beach Resort. After having lunch, board the bus for sightseeing in Ratnagiri. In Ratnagiri, visit the Ratnadurg Fort, Lokmanya Tilak Smarak and shop in Ratnagiri Bazar. In the evening, board the Deccan Odyseey train at Ratnagiri Railway station.
Day 3: Friday - Sindhudurg, Tarkarli, Sawantwadi
In the morning, the Deccan Odyseey train arrives at Sindhudurg Nagari Railway station. After having breakfast, you will departure by an air-conditioned bus to Malvan Jetty to view the Sindhudurg Sea Fort. After visiting the fort, from Jetty you proceed further to the Tarkarli Beach Resort and have lunch there. After lunch proceed for Backwater Cruise through the Tarkarli. Later drive to the Kalse Jetty and visit the Sawantwadi town by bus to witness fabulous lacquer handicrafts, paintings and furniture at the “Shilpagrama” in the town. Later in the evening board the train at Sawantwadi railway station.
Day 4: Saturday - Goa
In the morning, the Deccan Odyssey train arrives at Karmali, Goa, the most frequented tourist spots in India. From there, you will board the bus and reach Old Goa. Today you have sightseeing in Old Goa and visit the Basilica De Born Jesus, Se Cathedral, and the Church of St. Francis of Assissi, that began as a mosque but now is an archaeological museum for Goan antiques. Later, proceed to Panjim, the capiatl of Goa by bus. The day is free to have a short walk in city and bazaar and have lunch at Fort Aguada Beach Resort. After having lunch visit the Dona Paula Beach and 250 years old House. In the late evening, board the train from Madgaon railway station and depart for Pune.
Day 5: Sunday - Pune
In the morning, the train arrives at Pune, the erstwhile capital of Maharashtra. After having breakfast, you will board the bus and have sightseeing in Pune. In Pune you will visit the Mahatma Phule Mandi, the old central market, Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum. This museum houses variety of artifacts of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Later you will visit the David Synagogue, believed to be one of the largest church in the world. This church was built by a Jewish merchant, Sir David Sassoon in 1867. After having lunch at the Hotel, you will visit the Tribal Museum with an impressive collection of nearly 2000 rare and precious articles related to the tribal life of Maharashtra. Later you will visit the Aga Khan Palace. In this palace, Mahatma Gandhi was incarcerated during freedom struggle and presently converted in to a Museum dedicated to Gandhi family. After witnessing an enchanting Sound and Light Show at Shaniwarwada late in the evening, board the train from Pune railway station and depart for Aurangabad.
Day 6: Monday - Aurangabad and Ellora Caves
In the morning, the train arrives at the Aurangabad station. After travelling along the picturesque ruins of Aurangabad proceed by bus to the historical Daulatabad fort. After visiting the Daulatabad fort, visit the Ellora Caves. The Ellora Caves are a World Heritage site, and have 34 cave temples dedicated to three different religions, mainly Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. After having lunch at the hotel, visit Shivaji Museum with weapons and antiques from the great Maratha empire. Later, proceed further to visit the Bibi-ka-Maqbara. The Bibi-ka-Maqbara is a replica of Taj Mahal, a grand piece of Mughal architecture, and was built as a tribute from the Emperor son to his mother. Enjoy free time shopping at Paithani, Himroo, Bidriwork for a perfect memorabilia. Late in the evening board the train from Aurangabad railway station and depart for Nasik.
Day 7: Tuesday - Ajanta Caves and Nasik
In the morning, arrive at the Jalgaon railway station and board the bus for the Fardapur Resort. After having breakfast, proceed to visit renowned Buddhist caves of Ajanta. The Ajanta Caves is a World Heritage Site and has some of the finest paintings and sculptures of the second century AD. In the afternoon board the train at Bhusalwal railway station and proceed to Nasik. Lunch on board. In the evening arrive at Nasik railway station and proceed in the bus to visit Panchawati Ghat and Sula Winery Yard. In the night board the train at Nasik railway station and depart for Mumbai.
Day 8: Wednesday - Mumbai
In the morning, arrive in Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station in Mumbai and enjoy your breakfast on the Deccan Odyssey. |
