Day 01. Mumbai
Around Midnight arrival in Mumbai. The cosmopolitan city Mumbai
(formerly known as Bombay) is the main gateway for travellers to
India. Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra and second biggest city
of India. Upon arrival, you will be met by an Indo Vacations
representative and transferred to the hotel.
Day 02. Mumbai - Aurangabad (by train)
Today after having our breakfast we have a walk through the harbor
area and visit the Gateway of India built in 1927 by the English to
commemorate the visit of George 5th from England. We also visit the
Gandhi Museum and the famous Hanging Garden. In the evening transfer
to railway station for overnight journey to Aurangabad.
Day 03. Aurangabad
In the morning arrive in Aurangabad and transfer to the hotel. After
the breakfast we leave for Ajanta caves (around 100 km.) Of the
thirty monuments at Ajanta, four caves No 9,10,26 and 29 are
sanctuaries or Chaitya containing a Stupa at the centre of their
apses. The rest are monastic residences or Viharas. An Indian poet
Kalidasa describes these caves as the gem set of jewellery, rich
furniture, imposing architecture, natural scenery and fleeting
expressions on the faces.
Day 04. Aurangabad - Hyderabad (by train)
In the morning transfer to railway station for train to Hyderabad.
In the afternoon arrive in Hyderabad and transfer to the hotel.
Day 05. Hyderabad
After having breakfast, we drive to visit the impressive fort at
Golconda. This fort is entered through gateways which have relief
ornamentation of birds and animals. The Fateh Darwaza or Victory
Gate is made of teak with an engraved Hindu deity studded with iron
spikes. Within the ramparts lie the mosques, temples, the 3 storeyed
armoury, the harem, the Hall of Public Audience and the Rani Mahal
with the royal baths. After visiting the Golconda fort we visit the
Qutub Shahi Tomb. Each tomb is made of black granite or green stone
with fine sculpture, inscriptions and remains of glazed decoration.
Overnight in Hyderabad.
Day 06. Hyderabad - Chennai (by train)
The day is free for leisure. In the evening transfer to the railway
station for overnight train to Chennai.
Day 07. Chennai
In the morning arrive in Chennai and transfer to the hotel. After
having breakfast we start the sightseeing of Chennai. We visit the
Fort St. George near the harbour area of Chennai which was built by
the British in the 17th century and also the St. Mary's church which
was the first English church in India. Overngiht in Chennai.
Day 08. Chennai Excursion: Mahabalipuram, Kanchipuram
Today we have full day excursion tour to Mahabalipuram and
Kanchipuram. In Mahabalipuram we visit some of the 14 cave temples
and 9 monolithic rathas (temple chariots). Pallavamala was the ruler
who made the port famous in the 7th century and was largely
responsible for building the temples. After the visit of
Mahabalipuram we visit the Kanchipuram. Kanchpuram is known for the
sarees. Overnight in Chennai.
Day 09. Chennai - Mysore (train)
In the evening transfer to the railway station for the train to
Mysore.
Day 10. Mysore
In the morning arrive in Mysore. Today we visit the most impressive
and one of the largest city palaces in India. The City Palace of
Mysore "Ambar Vilas" is built in the Indo-Saracenic style. Mysore is
world famous for Silk and Sandalwood. Mysore is also a centre of
producing saris which is a common dress of woman in India. In Mysore
we drive to Chamundi Hill to see a giant Nandi (buffalo god) and
enjoy the view of the surroundings form the hilltop.
Day 11. Mysore - Belur - Halebid - Mysore
Today we drive through picturesque hilly landscape to Halebid which
is the ancient capital of Hoysala empire. In Halebid we visit the
Hoysalesvara Temple of 12th century where we see half life size
statues of Hindu deities, with minute details of each, all around
the temple. After visiting Halebid we proceed to Belur. In Belur we
visit the group of Chennakesava Temples which are famous for its
architecture and sculptures.
Day 12. Mysore - Bangalore
In the morning drive to Bangalore. Bangalore is the capital city of
the Indian state Karnataka. This former "Garden city" Bangalore is
known today as "computer city" of India.
Day 13. Bangalore
Today we drive through the garden city with its numerous avenues of
Jacaranda, Gulmohar and Cassia. We will visit the Bull temple, which
is built in the Dravidian style of architecture. This temple has a
huge Nandi Bull carved out of a single grey granite and famous Gowda
Fort, which was built by Tipu Sultan. We will also visit the Vidhan
Sabha and downtown commercial centre. This Vidhana Sabha, which is
built after independence, stands out by its imposing architecture in
the neo Dravidian style.
Day 14. Bangalore - Mumbai (flight)
In the morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Mumbai. In
the night transfer to international airport.
