Kufri |
Kufri is a small scenic hill station at the foothills of
Himalayas, it is located at the southern part of the state of
Himachal Pradesh and is known for its pleasing climate and
scenic beauty. It is a pleasant location near the imposing
hill station Shimla. Kufri, perched at a height of 2,510 m
above the sea level, it is famous for its picturesque trekking
and hiking trails. It is located about 13 kms from the state
capital Shimla on the National Highway No.22. This place got
its name from the word ‘kufr’, which means ‘lake’ in the local
language. This place witness tourists all round the year, due
to the many attractions associated with it.
Adventurous travelers prefer to visit Kufri during winters to
experience and enjoy the skiing and to bogganing along its
snow clad mountainous slopes. Wonderful nature parks and
scenic spots in the backdrop of natural settings are prime
attractions in Kufri. Kufri is located at 31.10°N 77.25°E. It
has an average elevation of 2,743 metres (9,000 feet).

has a Himalayan Wild Life Zoo which hosts rare Antelopes,
Felines and Birds including Himalayan Monal, the state bird of
Himachal Pradesh. During winter a meandering path through the
potato plantations turns into a popular Ski track.

History of Kufri |
The region around Shimla including Kufri was once a part of the
Kingdom of Nepal until the area was ceded to the British Raj as
part of the Sugauli Treaty. This region remained obscure from
the rest of the world until the British 'discovered' it in 1819. |

Best Time to Visit Kufri |
Summers in Kufri are pleasant with temperature hovering between
12 and 19 degree Celsius. Monsoon months remain cold with sparse
showers. During winters, the temperature drops below zero
degrees Celsius. It is the best time to experience snowfall.
November to February is the best time to indulge in skiing.

How to reach Kufri |
By Rail
The nearest railhead is at Shimla in narrow gauge rail route and
Broad Gauge railway station is at Kalka (100 km).
By Road
Buses link Kufri with Shimla, Narkanda and Rampur. State owned
transport buses and private deluxe buses are available from
Shimla to Kufri.
By Air
The nearest airport to Kufri is Jubbarbhatti Airport near Shimla
which is at a distance of about 13 kms from Kufri. Regular
flights are available from this airport to Delhi. Taxi services
are available at the airport. International tourists can avail
connecting flights at Delhi. |
