The main tourist attraction in Pushkar is the Pushkar Lake. This lake is believed to have
been created by God Brahma himself. There are about 400 temples and 52
Ghaats in Pushkar which are located on the banks of the Pushkar Lake. The
only temple of Lord Brahma is situated in Pushkar thus making Pushkar an
important pilgrimage city for Hindus.
Festivals in Pushkar
Pushkar is also the venue of one of the
country's most colourful cattle fairs - the Pushkar Festival. Pushkar
Festival takes place in the month of November when the whole of Pushkar is
transformed into a spectacular fair ground. During this festival thousands
of pilgrims come to bath in the holy water of Pushkar lake and the biggest
cattle and camel markets take place here where farmers, breeders and camel
traders buy and sell. During this festival there is horse dealing, camel racing,
cattle trading and colourful festivities. This annual fair is an
unforgettable event when the entire small town of Pushkar is visited by
over lakhs of animals and tourists. The Rajasthan Tourist Development Corporation
(RTDC) has also promoted the festival by putting up various dance and
music programmes and other cultural events and by providing the
accommodation in tents to the Indian and foreign tourists. Shopping in
Pushkar
The bazaars of Pushkar are lined with an assortments of interesting small shops.
The people can buy from these shops the silver and beaded jewellery, embroidered fabrics, bed
sheets, cushion covers, Rajasthani puppets, books, etc.
