The Bhanwar Vilas Palace was planned like a European building by the
Maharaja himself, who eliminated the need for an architect in Karauli.
Karauli is known for its pink stone used for construction and is a
pilgrimage centre. The Bhanwar Vilas palace was converted by the current
head of the family into a heritage hotel. In the garage of the hotel,
you can also see some of the vintage cars. There are 25 rooms in the
hotel. The restaurant in the hotel serves Indian and Rajasthani cuisine,

The Ghanerao Royal Castle is very romantic heritage hotel in Khimsar.
This royal castle was formerly known as Ganora and was
founded in 1606 by Gopal Das Rathore, a brave Rajput

believed that Aurangzeb once came on a short holiday to Khimsar. There

Castle
Mandawa Castle was built in 1755, and approached through two gateways
mounted with cannons. The Mandawa Castle is located in Mandawa, one of
the finest small town in the region of Shekhawati. The first courtyard
in the castle leads to a deep verandah beyond which is a drawing which
still retained the way it has been since decades. Several narrow
staircases and courtyards connect it with the array of rooms that were
added to it over the centuries. A terrace offers a view of the entire
town. Dinner is served in the back lawns accompanied by an enchanting
fire dance. The castle has a restaurant, and 57 rooms and suites. |

Narayan Niwas Castle was built in phases after it was founded in 1768 by
Thakur Nahar Singh in Mehansar. Mehansar is one of the Shekhawati's
smallest destination and known for its fine quality of wall paintings.
The Narayan Niwas castle has an imposing entrance, and reached by a
flight of stairs. The castle is now run by the seventh descendant of its
founder. The fort has some frescos, and the arched and well furnished
large rooms. The old parts of the fort include a well and an ancient

Kesar Bhawan Palace was built by in 1868 AD by the Maharaja Daiwat Singh
of Sirohi. This palace is one of the
oldest palace in Mount Abu. The Sirohis were the original
inhabitants of Mount Abu before it was thrown up as a summer resort for
all families under British domination. This palace was used as a guest
house for entertaining royal dignitaries and presents the
architecture of the region, with corridors and private pavilions. The

to a sibling in the 17th century. This fort was later used as a hunting

Neemrana Fort Palace is one of the oldest fort in Rajasthan, located in
Neemrana. Neemrana was a Chauhan stronghold and recently developing as an

now, it has been painstakingly restored by its present owners. Some of

mansion is built in the Indo-Saracenic style, and set within a garden
complex. The Anand Bhawan has been recently converted into hotel and has
24 rooms, a multi cuisine restaurant, and bar.

Caravaneserai, a haveli was the residence of Rajmata Vijayalaxmi Ranawat,
and built about hundred and fifty years ago in traditional Rajput style
in Udaipur. Over the decades, various additions have been made to this
haveli. This haveli is located near Jagdish temple on the banks of the
Pichola and has been recently renovated into a hotel. There are 24 rooms
in the hotel with various modern facilities, and a rooftop restaurant
that offers a panoramic view of the lake. |

Lake Palace, also known as Jag Niwas is built on the Pichola Lake in
Udaipur. This stunning palace was built by Rana Jagat Singh II in the
1730 as a pleasure palace because permission had been denied to him by
his father to develop the existing island palace of Jag Mandir. A large
number of the palatial apartments here date to this period and the
apartments are decorated with historical paintings in water colours.
Later several additions were made in the following century in the
palace.

Maharana Bhagwat Singh decided to convert Jag Niwas into a luxury hotel.

Laxmi Vilas Palace was built in 1911 by the Maharana Bhopal Singh as the residence of the British
political agent Mr. Winn Gate as a small bungalow in Udaipur.
After the agent shifted, the palace was later converted into a
royal guest house in 1945 for visiting
princes and dignitaries. In 1962, it was taken over by the government,
and is currently maintained by the Ashok Group of Hotels as a heritage
hotel. There are 47 rooms and 6 suites in the
hotel, with a swimming pool, tennis court,

Rang Niwas Palace was built with the express purpose of viewing the
Sitla Mata procession as it wound its way through the city of Udaipur.
This late 19th century palace was renovated in 1930 and converted into a

rooms with high ceilings. This heritage hotel has 24 rooms, a restaurant

Hotel Shiv Niwas Palace was built as the royal residence and a guest
house for the rulers of Udaipur. Hotel Shiv Niwas Palace has curved
chajjas or dripstone roofs, and its arched chambers were opulently
appointed with a number of white halls and white kiosks. This hotel
overlooks the Pichola Lake, and its two court artisans were sent to
London to study and create in its interiors the fine art of frescos and
glass-mosaic design. This hotel has a splendid suite of Belgian crystal
furniture and was converted into a heritage hotel in 1982. This hotel is

Fort
The Uniara fort was founded in 1200 AD in Uniara. Uniara was an
important thikana, initially under the suzerainty of Ranthambore. But
this area underwent great metamorphosis, and the current fort was
constructed in 17th century, and since rebuilt over the centuries. This
fort has been recently renovated and converted into a heritage hotel
with accommodation that is truly fitting of a royal guest. |

Youth Hostels in

The Department of Tourism has set up several youth hostels in Rajasthan for exploring
the plains and the hill stations.
These hostels provide a convenient and cheap base for organised tours, trekking, hiking or mountaineering.
The hostels have a capacity for about 40 beds or more, divided into male and female dormitories. Beds with mattresses,
bed sheets, blankets, wardrobe with locks, electric light points, member kitchen utensils and parking areas are available at each hostel.

Tourist Bungalows in

There are tourist bungalows at almost every tourist centre in
Rajasthan under the control of the Rajasthan Tourist Development
Corporation (RTDC). These bungalows have a clean single, double and family room,
with bath and general canteen. At holiday homes and certain tourist cottages there are kitchen facilities. Bookings should be made (a deposit will be required) with the managing director of the respective corporation, or with the manager of the
bungalow.
