Village Tour &
Rural
Tourism in Rajasthan
|
Explore the most
intact and unique colours of life of Rajasthan with our exclusive
Village Tours. Far from the royal palaces and luxurious city life of
the state, the villages of Rajasthan hold their own distinct charm.
Though you will not find forts, palaces, gardens in these usual
villages in Rajasthan off side of the tourist routes yet they are
worth visiting for the simple reason that they present the most simple
and basic life of Rajasthan. The modest way of living, colourful
attires of people, unpolluted environment, beautifully painted huts,
farms are unique features of village life that will make your visit
truly memorable.
You can enjoy true Indian hospitality in villages of Rajasthan
where according to an old saying guest is treated like god.
Viewed from a distance these villages
resemble any usual Indian village but once you enter in a village you
realize the uniqueness. The life is very calm and slow in the villages
as the rural people are still following the age-old living habits.
Most of the
small villages have small circular thatched roof huts with walls made
up of plaster of clay, cow dung, and hay. These huts usually have
boundaries called "baras"
which are typically made up of the dry branches of a nettle-like
shrub. The only decoration that can be seen in these of houses are in
form of a texture in the plaster
in the facade or designer patterns at the entrance and outside the
kitchen. In some larger villages you can
find bigger houses
that |
|
|
mostly belong to
affluent Zamindar families. The people of these villages belong to
different communities and are segregated according to the nature of
their profession. Most of the villagers depend on agriculture for
their livelihood and usually follow age-old agricultural practices
that date back to the time of Indus valley civilization. Observing
farmers in the fields while they plough them with camels and buffaloes
is really a cherishable experience. You can also take a tour in the
green field and watch women milking the cattle while the elderly and
young take them out to pastures for grazing. Religion plays an
important role in the lives of rural people. Each house has a separate
corner reserved specially for worship. Every morning, the villagers
pray before a calendar image of the god to bless them as always and
protect them from all evils. The images of local deities daubed with
vermilion can be seen outside every village.
Like any other thing meal is also very simple and modest. The
principal meal for the rural family consists of dinner, when freshly
baked bread and porridge is served with a yoghurt curry called karhi,
and with vegetables that may consist of dried beans, or fresh produce.
Breakfast is a usually glass full of hot tea with stale bread, and
lunch is a frugal meal of unleavened bread eaten with a spicy chutney
of chillies and garlic. Meals are mostly vegetarian though meat is
also eaten by some communities like Rajputs but that is occasional.
The dresses of people are noticeably bright and add colours to
arid desert surroundings. Women usually wear ghaghra-choli (long
skirts with blouse) and odhani (a long scarf) while men wear dhoti-
kurta and safa (turban). Both men and women can be seen wearing heavy
silver ornaments.
Panchayat (Panchayat can be understood as
local official management and judiciary
authority of a village) is also a distinctive feature of village life.
It is a place where all the villagers meet to discuss and resolve
their problems. These Panchayats are
usually addressed as well as administered by senior member of village
who enjoy high reputation among the villagers.
These Panchayats play a prominent role in
the life of villagers as the decisions of panchayat are followed very
rigidly. |
