Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is located about 46 kms south-west of national capital New Delhi on Delhi - Jaipur highway in Sultanpur, Haryana. Sultanpur is a bird watcher's paradise. Today Sultanpur is a beautiful country of birds and animals, which is covered with lush green lawns, trees, shrubs and masses of Bougainvillea.

Climate in the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary
The climate in the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is tropical with very hot summers and chilly winters. Monsoon approaches this place in the month of July and continues till mid-September. The best season to visit this sanctuary is in winters as the chances of seeing the exclusive wildlife of this sanctuary is more in these months.

Vegetation in the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary
The vegetation in the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is tropical and dry deciduous and the flora include Babul, Savannah grasses, Acacia, Jamun, Banyan, Dhok, Khair, Tendu, Ber trees.

Birds in the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary
Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is mainly a water-bird sanctuary which is home to Local and Migratory bird species, which can be seen wandering, swimming or flying around the lake or other areas. Some migratory birds found in the Bird Sanctuary are Siberian Cranes, Demoiselle Cranes, Ruddy Shelducks, Grey Pelicans, Flamingoes, Bar- headed Geese, Spotted Sandpiper, Darters, Grey Lags, Gadwalls, Mallards, Pochards, Shovellers and Teals. Local birds found here are Plovers, Red-wattled Lapwings, Grey Pelicans, Grey Herons, Pond Herons, Cormorants, Egrets, White Ibises, Spoonbills, Kingfishers, Lapwings, Sandpipers, Demoiselle cranes, Black-necked Storks and Painted Storks. In addition to the bird species, the park is home to a number of animals which include Leopard, Sambar, Nilgai, Mongoose, Blackbuck, Hog Deer, Caracal, Wild Dog, Wild Cat, Striped Hyena, Hedgehog, Indian Porcupine, Blue Bull, Rattle Badger, Wild Pig and Four Horned Antelope.

Migratory birds arrive in the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary in winters. Thus, the ideal time to visit the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is from October to March.

Other Attractions in the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary

Besides bird-watching, the park has provided the facilities of an education and interpretation centre, a small museum, library, films, slides and binoculars. Boating facility is also available in the lake situated within the park. Sultanpur Lake is the point around which the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary has been developed. The lake is a picnic spot for the residents of Delhi and boating facilities are also available here. The lake has a good number of reptiles and it attracts a lot of migratory birds during winters.
