Peermede
is the famous plantation town in the Idukki district of
Kerala. Peermede takes its name from Peer Mohammed, Sufi
saint and closely associated with the erstwhile royal
family of Travancore. Wide area of tea, cardamom, rubber
and coffee plantations interspersed with silver
cascades, sculptural rocks, meadows and mist-cloaked
hilltops offer immense possibilities for trekkers and
nature enthusiasts. The most delightful trekking trails
complement the panoramic landscape. The monuments like
the summer palace and summer residence of the royal
family add to the splendour of the land. The summer
residence has been now converted into the government
guest house under the Department of Tourism, and offers
comfortable accommodation. The weather is cool at Peermede all
through the year due to its altitude and can be visited at any

How to reach
Peermede
Peermede is located about 85 kms east to Kottayam, on the way
to Thekkady. There are frequent bus services from Kumily and
Kottayam.
