Naharlagun at 200 m and the new capital, Itanagar at 750 meters are 10 kms. apart but together provide the capital's administrative offices. Itanagar's new light earthquake proof buildings are mixed with the traditional huts built on the slopes of the hills. On one peak is the Residence of the Lt. Governor while on the other there is a new Buddhist temple, and in between are the shops, bazaar, old huts and new administrative buildings. Because of its strategic location, an inner line permit from Government of India is needed to explore the area. The best season to visit Itanagar is from October to March.

 

Tourist Attractions in Itanagar
The various tourist attractions in Itanagar are the Polo Park, Buddhist Temple, Ganga Sekhi Lake. The other tourist attractions in Itanagar are the Tawang Monastery, Malinithan, Parshuram Kund, Brahmakunda. The new yellow roofed Buddhist Temple stands in well kept gardens on top of the hill. How to reach Itanagar
By Air:

The nearest airport is located at Lilabari, North Lakhimpur in Assam. Lilabari is about 67 kms. from Itanagar and 57 kms. from Naharlagun.

Helicopter Services:

The Arunachal Pradesh Helicopter Service operates daily services between Guwahati and Naharlagun. The Helicopter also now connects many other centers within Arunachal Pradesh. The Helicopter Services mainly originate from Guwahati, Dibrugarh (Mohanbari) and Itanagar and are available for Tawang, Ziro, Along, Daporijo, Pasighat, Roing, Anini, Tezu and Khonsa.

By Rail:

The nearest railway station is located at Harmuty in Assam, about 33 km from Itanagar. A more convenient railway station is located at North Lakhimpur in Assam, about 60 km from Itanagar and 407 km from Guwahati.

By Road:
