Kohima
is the capital of Nagaland, a newly created state of
India. It is situated at an altitude of 1442 m. above

Attractions in Kohima
Kohima has a number of sites that are worth visiting to get an
insight of the place's rich history. The World War II Cemetery
that lies in a beautiful surrounding, the Cathedral of
Reconciliation, the Bara Basti, the Nagaland Museum, Nagaland
Zoo and Park are some of the attractions in Kohima. The sites
near Kohima include the tribal village of Khonoma, Dzulekie,
Jopfu Peak, Dzukou Valley and Dimapur. The war cemetry in
Kohima has a Commonwealth graves and a memorial with the
famous inscription, “When you go home, tell them of us and say
for your tomorrow, we gave our today”.

Festivals in Kohima
Sekrenyi Festival is celebrated by Angamis for 10 days
in February when all work in the field cease. On one
particular day, the young people sit and sing
traditional songs throughout the day. Aoling Konyaks
celebrate the six days festival after the sowing is
completed in March. It marks the end of the winter and
beginning of the new year with the appearance of the
spring flowers. Moatsu is also celebrated for six days
in May, marking the beginning of the growing season
after the hard work of clearing the fields, burning the
jungles and sowing of seeds. The year continues with

celebrating their special festivals - Tutuni and Naknyulum in
July, the harvest festival of Metemneo in August, Amongmong in
September, Tsokum in October and Tokhu Emong in November. The
priests perform ceremonies and there is lot of dancing,
singing and drinking of rice beer.

reach Kohima
By Air:
The only airport of Nagaland is located at Dimapur, which
connects Nagaland with Guwahati and Calcutta by regular
flights.
By Rail:
The major railway station is located at Dimapur, which lies on
the main line of the Northeastern Frontier Railway.
By Road:
Nagaland can be easily reached from Kohima, Guwahati and
