Day 1: New Delhi
Around midnight arrival in
New Delhi. The cosmopolitan city and capital Delhi is the main gateway for travellers. Upon arrival, you will be met by an Indo Vacations representative and transferred to the hotel.
Day 2: New Delhi - Bagdogra (by air) - Gangtok
In the morning we drive to the airport for the flight to
Bagdogra. After the arrival in Bagdogra we proceed through the coniferous forests and terraced tea gardens to
Gangtok which is the capital city of Sikkim. The capital of
Sikkim
"Gangtok" lies on a ridge overlooking the Ranipool river. Gangtok ("High Hill") lies at an altitude of 1760 m. Gangtok is surrounded by the mountains, especially from Kanchenjunga range. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel in Gangtok. In the evening we visit
Orchid Sanctuary which is laying south of the institute. This sanctuary contains over 450 indigenous species. Sikkim is considered paradise for orchid lovers.
Day 3: Gangtok
Today we drive to the
Enchey monastery. This monastery is believed to be 200 years old. The monks of this monastery belong to the
Mahayana Buddhism. After visiting the monastery we visit the institute of cottage industries as a wide range of local handicrafts in Lepcha style are produced here. In the evening we visit the unique Research Institute of
Tibetology on a hilltop which was established in 1958 to promote research on
Tibet and Mahayana Buddhism. Here we will see the biggest collection of tibetan scripts and an excellent collection of rare Tankhas, bronze and cult objects.
Day 4: Gangtok - Yuksom (about 130 km)
After breakfast drive to
Yuksom through beautiful villages, waterfalls and rice fields. In the evening arrive in Yuksom. Yuksom provides beautiful vistas of mini lakes against the Himalayan backdrop. Yuksom is also the trekking base of Sikkim. Yuksom was the first capital of Sikkim and it was here that the first Chogyal was consecrated by the three holy Lamas. The place where the ceremony take place in the year 1642 can still be seen there. In the afternoon arrive in Yuksom. |

Day 5: Yuksom - Bakhim (about 12 km)
Today we leave behind Yuksom and follow the mule track along the fast flowing Rathong Choo stream, crossing two wooden bridges. In Rathong Choo a small temple invites devotees from as far as
Nepal, across the glacier. The lake is a restricted area. This lake is fed by the Rathong and Kokthang glaciers. The final ascend to
Bakhim is a serpentine trail of countless bends, after crossing the second wooden bridge falling enroute. After a six to seven hours long trekking we reach Bakhim and have an overnight stay there only.
Day 6: Bakhim - Dzongri (about 8 km)
As we move further we come closer to the famous Kanchenjunga and get an initial view of the Sikkim snows. From Phittang, the trail leads up an exquisite forest of Rhododendron to Deorali Dara. From here you will get an excellent view of the massive ranges of
Sikkim mountains. Straight ahead is the third highest peak in the world - the mighty Kanchenjunga. Overnight stay at Dzongri.
Day 7: Dzongri - Thangsing (about 7 km)
Today we move further to Thangsing. The four hour trekking leads through meadows and valleys into a beautiful Thangsing valley situated at the base of Jopine Peak. Thangsing is surrounded by massive mountains on all sides.
Day 8: Thangsing
The day is free to have rest and explore the surroundings in Thangsing
Day 9: Thangsing - Chaurithang (about 10 km)
Today it will be a long trek to the
Chaurithang falls at the Rathong glacier. This is the base camp of the world famous Himalayan Mountaineering Institute,
Darjeeling. The splendid views of the peaks like Kokthang, Kabru, Rathong and Chandra can be seen from here. |

Day 10: Chaurithang - Zamlingang (about 10 km)
Today we will begin our trek from Chaurithang to Zamlingang. The trek will pass through some of the most beautiful forested areas of Sikkim. Overnight stay at Zamlingang.
Day 11: Zamlingang - Bakhim
The trail to Bakhim runs through a garden of flowers which can be quite spectacular in spring when giant Magnolias and more than ten type of Rhododendrons bloom along the trail. You will also find a large variety of exotic birds, butterflies and orchids. Overnight stay at Bakhim.
Day 12: Bakhim - Yuksom (about
12 km)
Today we will return to our trekking base camp at Yuksom. After six to seven hours trekking reach Yuksom and have an overnight stay there only.
Day 13: Yuksom - Darjeeling
After the breakfast we proceed through the coniferous forests and terraced tea gardens and arrive in Darjeeling. Darjeeling (place of the thunderbolt) has spectacular scenery. Due to its altitude of 2134 m and soothing temperature in summers Darjeeling has become a famous hill resort in India. By clear weather we can enjoy the impressive and unforgettable views of
Himalayas.
Day 14: Darjeeling
Early in the morning we drive to Tiger Hill (around 11 km) to enjoy the sunrise. Tiger hill (2590 m) is the highest point in this area. There is a breathtaking view of the sunrise on the Kanchenjunga.
Mount Everest (8842) is also visible on a clear day. The moments of sunrise from Tiger Hill are described by most of the visitors as unforgettable. In the afternoon we explore Darjeeling and its surroundings. We visit the village Lablong and the institute of mountaineering where we get the detailed information about the natural surrounding and the habitants of this area. |

Day 15: Darjeeling - Bagdogra (about 100 km) - New Delhi (by air)
Through the wild Tista valley we drive to Bagdogra. In the afternoon we drive to the airport for the flight from Bagdogra to New Delhi. Rooms are available to get refresh before departing for the airport. The rest of the day at leisure. After dinner leave the hotel for the airport.
Day 16: New Delhi
Around midnight flight to home destination.
