Thirunelly Temple |
Thirunelly Temple
The Thirunelly Temple is situated 32 km northeast of
Mananthavady in the Wayanad district of Kerala. It is
surrounded by Kambamala, Karimala and Varadiga, and an
excellent example of temple architecture. The shrine is
shielded with 30 granite columns and the ground is paved with
huge square pieces of granite. The crystal clear waters of the
Papanasini River running downhill adds the enchantment to the
place.

Kuruva Island |
The Kuruva
Island is one of the several small islands, situated on
the eastward bound Kabini River, about 17 km east of
Mananthavady and 145 km northwest of Sulthan Bathery in
the Wayanad district of Kerala. This island is
uninhabited and covers an area of 950 acres. This small
island is a home of some of the rare species of birds,
orchids and plants. |

The Glass Temple
The Glass temple is located on the slope of Vellarimala, about
20 kms away from Kalpetta. This temple is dedicated to
Parswanatha Swamy of the Jains. The mirrors inside the temple
walls reflect images of the icons in the temple’s sanctum
sanctorum.
Valliyurkavu Bhagavathy Temple
The Valliyurkavu Bhagavathy temple is dedicated to goddess
Durga. The two week long festival, celebrated in the month of
February is one of the major festival which is visited by
hundreds of tribes. |

Kalpetta
Chembra peak
The Chembra peak is situated about 14 km west of
Kalpetta in the Wayanad at a height of 2100 m above mean
sea level. The Chembra peak is the highest peak in
Wayanad and an ideal area for trekking. |

Banasura Project, Padinjarathara |
Banasura Project is a mini hydel-power project in
Padinjarathara. The largest earth dam in India and the second
largest dam in Asia is built here. The major attractions of
Banasur is a sprawling sanctuary and park with ever flowering
trees.
Nagarhole Wildlfe Sanctuary
The Nagarhole Wildlfe Sanctuary is situated in the state of
Karnataka and extends over an area of 643.39 square km. The
park houses diverse species of plant and animal life. |

Wayanad Wildlife
Sanctuary
Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1973 in Wayanad.
The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is contiguous to the protected
area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur in Karnataka and
Mudumalai Sanctuaru in Tamil Nadu. This sanctuary is rich in
flora and fauna, and an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere
Reserve, which has been established with the specific
objective of conserving the biological heritage of the region.
The management has also laid emphasis on scientific
conservation with due consideration of the general lifestyle
of the tribes and others who live in and around the forest
region.

Edakkal Caves |
Edakkal Caves
The Edakkal Caves are located at a height of 1000 m on
Ambukutty Mala near Ambalavayal, about 12 km from Sulthan
Bathery. The new stone-age pictorial writings on the walls of
these natural caves describes about the civilization that
existed in this region. The caves can be accessed only by 1 km
trekking trail from Edakkal. Morning is the best time to visit
the caves. |
